Control 2 Has Entered Full Production

According to Developer Remedy Entertainment’s latest report, they have commenced the active phase of production for the sequel to “Control.” All necessary preparatory work for the project, known as “Control 2,” has already been completed.

According to Remedy’s report, a game being in full production implies it has progressed significantly, starting from the initial directive for its development, right through to preparing for actual production after completing a prototype. During this phase of full production, Remedy anticipates a time span of between 15 and 26 months, with the team size potentially ranging from more than 75 to as many as 200 members.

Apart from “Control 2”, the company has additionally disclosed that other projects such as the remakes of “Max Payne 1 & 2” and the cooperative action game “FBC: Firebreak” are all part of their full-production phase.

Additionally, Remedy Entertainment has disclosed that the preliminary budget for “Control 2” amounts to approximately €50 million. Furthermore, they have announced a collaboration with Annapurna Pictures, who will shoulder half of the development costs for “Control 2”. As part of this arrangement, Annapurna Pictures secures the rights to transform Remedy games such as “Control” and “Alan Wake” into movies and television series.

A few weeks ago, I was eagerly anticipating news from Remedy Entertainment following their latest financial report, and it seems my wait wasn’t in vain! They mentioned that work on “Control 2” had moved into full-scale production – exciting times ahead for us fans!

In a hint that’s less than explicit, Remedy has only revealed that the sequel to Control, tentatively named Control 2, will continue the storyline of the original game. This intriguing teaser was subtly included in a DLC for Alan Wake 2 titled The Lake House. In this DLC, the character Kiran Estevez was mysteriously transported to various locations reminiscent of those seen in Control, such as the Panopticon in the Oldest House and even the Oceanview Hotel.

The studio has earlier categorized “Control 2” as an Action Role-Playing Game (RPG). Since the original “Control” incorporated some mechanics akin to RPGs, such as crafting weapon modifications, the labeling of “Control 2” as an action RPG suggests that these elements could potentially be developed into more comprehensive systems.

In addition to “Control 2”, the “Control” universe is also growing due to the spin-off game “FBC: Firebreak”. Director Mike Kayatta has discussed Remedy’s decision to create a multiplayer title, describing it as an opportunity for the studio to explore something fresh.

In January, Kayatta stated that much of what they’re venturing into is new and unexplored for them. They acknowledge that they have a great deal to learn in order to fully realize the potential they see, but their enthusiasm and determination are strong as they advance into this field.

According to Remedy Entertainment, additional information about the game “Firebreak: Firebreak” will be unveiled during the Future Games Show on March 20th. The developers are working on the game for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Previously, the studio mentioned that “Firebreak: Firebreak” will be a moderately priced title and its system requirements won’t be as demanding as those for “Alan Wake 2.”
