Wendy Williams is sharing her story.
Previously popular talk show host, currently under a court-assigned guardianship since an undisclosed date, unexpectedly resurfaced in public on March 14th. During her appearance on The View, alongside her advocate Gina Monterroso, she expressed a desire for “a new caretaker.
She shared with hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro, and Alyssa Farah Griffin during her call that she had visited the hospital because she was feeling a bit uneasy. As you know, she lives in a memory unit on that floor, and she just needed some fresh air and wanted to see the doctors. That’s why she went to the hospital.
While she was there, she expressed, “I opted for an individual assessment regarding my condition, but I haven’t received it yet. It’s absolutely uncalled for them to claim that I am incapacitated. I am not.
Following Sunny’s review of Sabrina Morrissey’s lawyer’s statement, which confirmed that a judge had declared her legally incapacitated and established guardianship, while assuring Wendy was not isolated from her family and was receiving quality medical attention, Wendy strongly expressed her need for relief from both her guardian and the judge, stating, “Please remove your interference as I cannot handle these two individuals again.
In late 2021, Wendy stepped away from the limelight and took a break from “The Wendy Williams Show,” which eventually concluded in 2022 with Sherri Shepherd as its host, due to health complications. However, in February 2024, it was disclosed that she had been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. At the time of diagnosis, her healthcare team reported that these conditions were affecting her ability to communicate and think clearly, creating substantial challenges for Wendy. She is currently 60 years old.
The court-appointed guardian expressed a comparable viewpoint in a document submitted for legal proceedings in November 2024. This individual stated that Wendy has experienced cognitive decline and is now irreversibly incapacitated.
Nevertheless, the Emmy-winning individual firmly disagrees with this notion. Back in the early part of the year, Wendy conducted her initial interview post-diagnosis, during which she was accompanied by her niece Alex Finnie. In this conversation, they claimed that she should not be under a conservatorship.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d say, “During my conversation on The Breakfast Club, I made it clear that I’m not experiencing cognitive impairment. However, I expressed a feeling of confinement, likening it to being in a prison.
Alex highlighted that her aunt is effectively confined within the guardianship situation. She went on to explain, “She’s being detained and she’s being penalized,” suggesting that her aunt is unfairly restricted for reasons others have concocted to justify maintaining this position.
On March 10th, Wendy was taken from the assisted living facility that she had previously referred to as a “luxury prison,” and was transported to a hospital. An NYPD representative confirmed this information to TopMob. After her stay at the hospital, she appeared on Good Day New York alongside her caretaker, Gina, to dispute any claims about her mental capabilities.
Revealing she underwent such tests at the hospital, she noted, “I passed with flying colors.”
Gina confirmed Wendy “had those tests,” adding, “She’s been deemed she is not incapacitated.”
The caretaker went on to say, “These results come from a highly reputable hospital. They stand alone as facts. If the judge were to question these test findings, I would feel let down and concerned.
