All moon phases in Monster Hunter Wilds

In the map displayed, it indicates both the time of day and the monster population; however, an important detail omitted is the fluctuating moon phases. Keeping track of these stages is vital for gathering Nightflower Pollen, a highly sought-after resource used in crafting uncommon equipment. Here’s a breakdown of each lunar phase in Monster Hunter Wilds.

MH Wilds moon phases, explained

In the mysterious Forbidden Lands, the night sky showcases a cycle of seven distinct lunar phases, with each phase transforming daily. A casual stroll outside at night allows you to witness this celestial display. The game doesn’t delve too deeply into what each phase signifies, but here’s a breakdown for each lunar stage:

1. New Moon: This is when the moon is completely invisible, appearing as a dark void in the sky.
2. Waxing Crescent: A small sliver of the moon can be seen on the left side, growing larger over the following days.
3. First Quarter: The moon appears half-lit, with its right side illuminated and the left side dark.
4. Waxing Gibbous: The moon grows brighter and larger, with more than half of it visible on the right side.
5. Full Moon: The moon appears completely lit, casting a bright glow over the Forbidden Lands.
6. Waning Gibbous: The moon starts to shrink, with more than half of it now on the left side.
7. Last Quarter: The moon appears half-lit again, but this time its left side is illuminated and the right side is dark. This marks the beginning of a new cycle of lunar phases.

Days Moon Phases What They Look Like
Day 1 Waning Gibbous
Day 2 Third Quarter
Day 3 Waning Crescent
Day 4 Waxing Crescent
Day 5 First Quarter
Day 6 Waxing Gibbous
Day 7 Full Moon

To get the Nightflower Pollen to bloom, you should wait for the Full Moon since they only appear then. I personally recommend visiting areas like the upper part of Windward Plain’s Area 4 during the evening, followed by a wait for the pollen to bloom. Some quests can speed up your journey to the Full Moon, but it’s not certain now that farming Nightflower Pollen has been adjusted. Earlier, the Desert Knows Not the Sea quest could be used to initiate the Full Moon phase. However, currently, the phases are randomly triggered during missions and may not always produce pollen.

Other stages don’t carry much importance individually, primarily acting as milestones to guide your progress through the weekly cycle. For instance, being in the Waxing Gibbous phase means you are just a day away (in-game time) from reaching the Full Moon.

How to change moon phases fast in MH Wilds

Instead of waiting for the moon phases to change naturally over days, you can expedite the process by setting up camp at your Base Camp or using your Portable Grill. Once you reach High Rank (increase your Hunter Rank), this feature will become available during the postgame. To maximize resources and encounter more monsters, adjust the Environment Overview to ‘Evening’/’Nighttime’. This action requires 300 Guild Points each time, so it may be necessary to complete missions to earn these points.

For individuals utilizing the portable barbecue grill, they’ll find themselves waking up closest to the Base Camp. To remain in the same location, consider setting up camp with the Pop-Up Temporary Shelter as an alternative. This choice will help minimize your travel duration.

‘Can’t change moon phase’ fix

Some gamers have observed that the moon phases remain unchanged even after choosing the rest option. If this is happening with you, you might need to advance in the primary campaign or restart from the main menu. Sometimes, quests can get stuck in a loop, so focusing on the main storyline could be helpful. Alternatively, you can try rebooting the main menu to see if it resets things.
