10. Safi’jiiva

In the game “Monster Hunter World: Iceborne,” we encounter a massive, red-colored dragon named Safi’jiiva. This monstrous creature is the fully grown form of Xeno’jiiva, another monster found in the base version of the game. Its body is covered in thick, red scales, it has a pair of large wings, and its tail sports menacing spines, making it quite fearsome.

This Elder Dragon is widely adored by the Monster Hunter community, renowned for being one of the most challenging monsters to defeat in the Iceborne DLC. It possesses the unique skill to fire bio-energy blasts at approaching enemies and whirl its tail resembling a mace.

9. Malzeno

In the world of Monster Hunter: Wilds, one more Elder Dragon remains unaccounted for – the awe-inspiring Malzeno. This formidable creature made its entrance in the franchise during its fifth generation, allowing players to engage in battle with it starting from 2022’s expansion, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.

Given that Malzeno hasn’t made an appearance in any game since its debut within the franchise, it seems like an ideal moment to introduce this fascinating creature into the Wilds. With a long-feathered neck, a black body, and pink skin on its wings, Malzeno certainly stands out.

8. Alatreon

In the game Monster Hunter, there’s an Elder Dragon named Alatreon from earlier times that cannot be hunted in Monster Hunter: Wildspur. This formidable creature with a scaly hide is capable of manipulating various elements – it switches between its Dragon, Fire, Ice, Thunder, and Water powers.

Since its debut in the year 2009, within the “Monster Hunter 3” game, Alatreon has made a reappearance more recently in the Iceborne expansion pack of “Monster Hunter World.

7. Fatalis

In terms of game history, the Elder Dragon Fatalis is among the earliest creatures in the “Monster Hunter” universe, debuting since the initial game. This massive grey beast shares similarities with European dragons, featuring a long serpentine neck and a bulky chest that seems to puff out when it moves.

Fatalis often prefers to stick with its ancient methods, primarily relying on its sharp teeth and classic dragon fire for attacks. Although it doesn’t possess the elemental powers exhibited by other monsters, Fatalis is a timeless choice and definitely deserves a place among the characters in Wilds.

6. Nargacuga

Players are eager to confront Nargacuga once more in “Monster Hunter Wilds”. This creature belongs to the Flying Wyvern category and is a unique fusion of an eagle, bear, and tiger, boasting sharp claws, wings, and a beak-like muzzle.

The fearsome Nargacuga employs its entire body as an arsenal when necessary. Its combat strategy resembles that of a sleek black panther, stealthily approaching its quarry before executing a sudden ambush, often catching the victim off guard. This formidable creature has graced eight core games since its inception and recently made an appearance in .

5. Velkhana

In Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, Velkhana is a colossal Elder Dragon with a chilling reputation for leaving everything it touches frozen solid. With its ability to manipulate cold, it can unleash a super-cooled fluid breath that instantly freezes its adversaries in their tracks.

As a passionate film buff, I’d rephrase it like this: In my world of gaming, I first encountered Velkhana in “Monster Hunter World: Iceborne.” Since then, she’s made a brief appearance in another title within the franchise, “Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.

4. Valstrax

As a movie critic, I’d say that Valstrax, a new character from Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, is a breathtaking creation reminiscent of an intricate heavy metal sketch brought to life. This Elder Dragon boasts razor-sharp scales and flaming wings that appear as if they’ve been drawn straight onto its back, creating an image both fierce and captivating.

The swift flying creature is famed for its incredible airspeed, drawing in oxygen from its chest while flying which generates a thrust similar to a jet engine, allowing it to achieve speeds like a rocket. Combined with its ability to unleash attacks imbued with the power of dragons, Valstrax proves a formidable adversary indeed.

3. Lagiacrus

In 2009, the game Monster Hunter 3 introduced a formidable creature called Lagiacrus – a massive blue Leviathan. Its elongated, serpentine body allows it to move swiftly on land, while emitting crackling lightning from its mouth and spiked back, which it uses to repel opponents.

It appears that fans will be delighted to learn that Lagiacrus is likely to appear in the game’s environment, known as “Wilds”, and this could happen quite soon according to recent updates from Capcom. This monster species is said to be included in the Summer Content Update for the game, which has been speculated to include new monsters (find more details about the first DLC monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds here).

2. Nergigante

In my humble opinion, stepping into the realm of monster hunting with Nergigante is an awe-inspiring experience. This formidable Elder Dragon stands tall on two legs, adorned with dark green scales and towering horns that dominate its imposing head. This colossal beast made its debut in the captivating world of Monster Hunter World, swiftly establishing itself as one of the game’s most challenging adversaries (leaving many players eagerly anticipating its arrival in the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds).

Unlike other Elder Dragons who rely on fire breath or powerful elemental attacks, Nergigante primarily employs raw strength. Its repertoire consists mainly of swift headbutts, claw swipes, and tail sweeps, transforming it into a relentless battering ram that can effortlessly fell a hunter.

1. Zinogre

In the highly anticipated Monster Hunter Wilds game, the most eagerly awaited beast is the fearsome Zinogre. This monster resembles a wolf with fangs, flaunting cat-like features and an enormous tail that functions as a powerful club. The agile Zinogre from the Monster Hunter series boasts an impressive arsenal of both ground and aerial attacks.

In 2010, the beloved monster first appeared in the game “Monster Hunter Portable 3rd”. Since then, it has been seen in various other versions. The latest sighting of this monster was in the expansion pack for “Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak”.
