Marvel Reveals Hot Secret: Xavier to Resurrect Lilandra?

The thrilling saga known as “X-Manhunt” has swept through the X-Men comic series, merging the “From the Ashes” storylines into one epic crossover focused on Professor Charles Xavier. In the Krakoa Era, Xavier found himself incarcerated at Graymalkin Prison due to his actions. In a surprising turn of events, he collaborated with Orchis’ AI faction, aiming to persuade them to target humans instead of mutants, giving the X-Men an opportunity to counter them. However, this plan was abruptly disrupted when his daughter, Xandra, Empress of the Shi’Ar, was assaulted by Shi’Ar rebels. Her distress call prompted Xavier’s escape from prison, causing him to overpower Rogue’s team before seeking assistance from Storm to reach San Francisco urgently for a secretive reason.

This encounter placed them at odds with the X-Men, a conflict the X-Men eventually overcame by employing some clever strategies. Yet, X-Factor intervened, insisting that Professor Xavier be handed back to them because they served the government and aimed to return him to Graymalkin. Consequently, another altercation ensued, culminating in Xavier disclosing to Cyclops his purpose for being in San Francisco – he intended to visit Utopia, the former X-Men headquarters, to retrieve something remarkable: a Krakoan resurrection egg. This revelation introduces numerous questions and fundamentally alters the direction of “X-Manhunt”.

Who Does Xavier Want to Resurrect?

In this new phase, known as the Krakoa Era, led by writer Jonathan Hickman, the X-Men underwent a significant transformation. The start of this era significantly altered the tone of the X-Men comic books. Professor X and Magneto successfully founded a mutant nation on the island of Krakoa, welcoming both heroes and villains alike. This unified mutant race began to explore their powers in unique ways and even discovered a method to circumvent death.

Professor X implemented a plan where he copied the memories of every mutant worldwide, preserving these recollections within Shi’Ar memory crystals. A select group of mutants, known as The Five – consisting of Hope Summers, Proteus, Tempo, Egg, and Elixir – utilized genetic material from Mister Sinister, who had amassed a comprehensive database of Earth’s mutant DNA. With this material, they created eggs that would hatch resurrected versions of deceased mutants. Xavier or Hope would then implant these resurrected beings with the original memories, effectively eliminating death from their reality.

As the Krakoa Era reached its conclusion, The Five departed Earth and relocated to the White Hot Room of the Phoenix alongside the mutant island. Resurrection on Earth ceased to occur following this departure.

Currently, Xavier’s pursuit of the final Krakoan egg is a significant event. Initially, it was unclear what Xavier would do after his escape, but he had a mission to aid his daughter. However, being imprisoned on Earth and with most of his allies holding grudges against him, it was challenging to understand how he could make amends for his actions regarding Xandra and save her. Nevertheless, this latest development offers an insight into Xavier’s plan – he aims to revive Lilandra.

The Shi’Ar people dislike Xandra not only because she’s half-human but also due to the fact that she was artificially created rather than born naturally. This makes her an abomination in the eyes of more traditional Shi’Ar. Reviving Lilandra would serve multiple purposes. First and foremost, it would restore the Shi’Ar Empire’s beloved ruler. Lilandra governed the Empire during one of its most prosperous eras. Secondly, it would provide Xandra with a parent figure for the first time in her life. Xandra never had parents, so she was raised by Imperial servants and her aunt Deathbird. Lastly, it would repay Lilandra for the circumstances that led to her demise, when Cassandra Nova destroyed the Shi’Ar Empire while residing within Xavier’s body.

Xavier Is Trying to Make Up for His Worst Actions

The partnership between the X-Men and the Shi’Ar has always been a reciprocal one, with benefits going both ways. The Shi’ar have bestowed their advanced technology upon the X-Men, and Charles Xavier and Lilandra had a romantic relationship. In return, the X-Men frequently intervened to protect the Empire, combating various threats from entities like the Brood and corrupt Imperial pretenders. Lately, Charles Xavier’s connection with the Shi’ar has focused more on obtaining resources for mutants by supporting Xandra, rather than aiding the Shi’ar themselves. The storyline “X-Manhunt” could be the initial move in a lengthy process of Charles Xavier addressing past wrongs.

In ‘From the Ashes’, the X-Men have been reverted to their old state, and ‘X-Manhunt’ could be the tale that restores their bond with the Shi’Ar to its familiar standing. By reviving Lilandra, Professor Xavier aims to bring stability to her empire and rekindle his connection with the Shi’Ar. With the last Krakoan egg at hand, there seems to be no other task more fitting for him. Although X-Factor #8 ended with his abduction, the return of Lilandra is expected to impact the unfolding story.

X-Factor #8 is on sale where ever comics are sold.
