It appears that Nintendo might be developing something related to the GameCube, as information about it seems to have been disclosed prematurely. This leak stemmed from a recent FCC filing. Notably, this revelation comes before the anticipated launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 and during a lengthy period of anticipation among Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, who are eager for Nintendo to expand their service beyond N64 games by adding GameCube games to Nintendo Switch Online.
It appears that a FCC (Federal Communications Commission) filing hints at a possible GameCube controller for the Nintendo Switch 2. This is significant because Nintendo has historically released retro controllers in tandem with adding classic games to their Nintendo Switch Online service, such as the N64 controller with N64 games and the SNES controller with SNES games. If this trend continues, it’s reasonable to expect that if GameCube games are added to Nintendo Switch Online, a GameCube controller may also be introduced.
The theory is derived from the image displayed below. Initially, it seems to show nothing at all, but on closer examination, its seemingly random arrangement aligns perfectly with a GameCube controller when superimposed.
Furthermore, it seems the controller is designed to work with the proposed Nintendo Switch 2, identified by the model number prefix “BEE.” For those who may not be aware, the current Nintendo Switch uses the prefix “HAC” in its model numbers.
Indications suggest that Nintendo might be planning to enhance their Nintendo Switch Online service by adding GameCube games for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This wouldn’t be unexpected, and if true, it could coincide with a rumored price hike. However, at this point, everything is just speculation based on leaks, which Nintendo typically does not respond to. If they do comment, we will promptly update the story.
If, as many Nintendo enthusiasts speculate, these dots form a pattern, it’s quite likely that we might uncover this mystery during the inaugural Nintendo Switch 2 Direct on April 2. Besides the potential increase in NSO pricing, which Nintendo might announce through a separate press release after the Direct.
