EastEnders Bids Farewell to Groundbreaking Drag Queen Felix Baker

EastEnders has announced that Matthew James Morrison will no longer be a part of their BBC series, as they’ve decided to remove his character from the show.

For the past three years, I’ve had the privilege of portraying Felix Baker on the Silver Screen, joining the Baker clan in 2022 as they moved into town, kin to the late Taylor family. This character arc has been an intriguing journey indeed!

A representative from the BBC announced that Matthew is planning to depart from EastEnders towards the end of the year. They shared this information with The Sun.

Another source shared with the newspaper: “Making the choice to let a character go is never an effortless decision for those in charge.

“Matthew has been great, but bosses felt the time was right to say goodbye to Felix.”

Felix became a part of the Walford family, along with his father Avery (Omar Lye-Fook) and sibling Finlay (Ashley Byam). Sadly, Avery passed away only a few weeks later following complications from an illness.

Approximately a year following his unexpected departure, Finlay was compelled to bid farewell to Walford due to the relentless actions of the Panesars in 2023.

In the vibrant world of EastEnders, I found myself stepping into uncharted territory as a recurring cast member, breaking new ground by portraying the show’s first-ever regular drag queen character, Tara Misu. This historical role has been an exhilarating journey, pushing boundaries and redefining expectations within the soap opera genre.

At that point, Morrison expressed his gratitude for being able to follow in the strong footsteps of Tara Misu in his role on EastEnders, which he considers a blessing.

It’s an honor to stand as a representative for the LGBTQIA+ community, demonstrating the captivating art of drag to our audience at home and the citizens of Walford.

Currently, you’ll frequently find Felix tending bar at The Albert. Interestingly, he has been noticeably absent from many significant plot developments, such as the departure of his uncle, Mitch Baker (played by Roger Griffiths), who left not long ago.
