According to a source familiar with the matter Jennifer Remling, the head of HR for Warner Bros Discovery has exited the company “effective immediately” as of Thursday, March 6. Remling is being replaced by Amy Girdwood, a long time Human Resources executive who started at Discovery in 1993. Jennifer Remling joined WBD in January of 2024, putting her tenure at only 15 months.
The email from David Zaslav, dated Thursday, 3/6 read:
“I want to share with you the news that Jennifer Remling, our Chief People & Culture Oiffice, is leaving the company to pursue new opportunities… I’m pleased to share with you that Amy Girdwood will be stepping into the role as Chief People & Culture Officer, effective immediately.”
After the announcement on February 27, I’ve noticed a significant shift in the naming strategy at Warner Bros Discovery. The department previously known as “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” is now simplified to just “Inclusion,” under the leadership of Remling and Asif Sadiq. Earlier, Sadiq held the title of “chief global diversity, equity, and inclusion officer.” Now, he is officially recognized as the “chief inclusion officer.
It is difficult to determine if this is part of a wider strategy, but the recent announcement that Paapa Essiedu has been cast in the upcoming Harry Potter remake to play the “pale” and “sallow” potions master Severus Snape would indicate that Warner Bros Discovery is continuing it’s previously known trajectory. Sadiq has been known internally as a champion for diversity in the casting process, despite fan confusion.
