These newlyweds are honeymooning in Hollywood.
American Idol contestant Isaiah Moore had the love of his life by his side as he auditioned to secure his spot on season 23. Indeed, the Alabama native had wife Abby—whom he had just married a week prior—by his side as they ditched their honeymoon plans so he could audition for the ABC singing competition.
“We had a cruise to the Caribbean for our honeymoon,” Isaiah, 22, revealed ahead of his big moment in front of judges Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood and Luke Bryan during the March 16 episode. “But ultimately, my wife, she told me that there was no other option but to cancel it and come here to audition in Nashville.”
In a festive touch, Ryan Seacrest, our gracious host, handed the duo mocktails as he learned about Abby’s ingenious scheme.
Isaiah didn’t just have his wife’s backing during his Hollywood audition; instead, he had the company of his grandparents who had taken care of him and his siblings while his mom fought drug addiction. What made this moment particularly touching was that Isaiah announced his mother—having been three years clean—was also present to encourage him.
Since his sibling who was dealing with addiction couldn’t attend, he chose to audition with Luke Combs’ “Where the Wild Things Are” as a tribute to him.
“He’s been having a hard time the past year,” Isaiah told the judges before going into his acoustic performance. “I would say, and I worry about him. I love him. He was supposed to be here today. I know that he loves me, but I just don’t want him going down the same path that my mom went down, and so I’m singing this for him.”
Following a moving presentation that left the judges emotional, Isaiah was enveloped by his loved ones as they saw each judge say “yes” in unison, at which point he heard, “You’re headed to Hollywood!
In January, Isaiah shared a sneak peek of his audition with his fans. Standing with his guitar next to the American Idol sign, he captioned the Jan 2nd Instagram post, “Exciting times ahead.
