Jimmy Carr: Sean Lock Made Me Cry Laughing

Jimmy Carr mourns his late friend, fellow comedian, and co-star from 8 Out of 10 Cats, Sean Lock, who passed away at the age of 58 in 2021.

When speaking with TopMob magazine ahead of his new show Last One Laughing UK, Carr was asked who makes him laugh, to which he said: “Sean Lock made me laugh more than anyone.

“I was unable to control myself – it was like that sensation of being at a funeral or a school assembly and you’re not meant to laugh.

While on the set of “8 Out of 10 Cats,” he made me laugh so hard that I cried, causing my makeup to need retouching, and I would let out an unusual goose-like laugh.

“I miss him very much.”

Absolutely, Carr’s unique laugh is well-recognized, and when inquired if it has remained consistent over time, he responded: “Indeed, though I didn’t possess it during my initial years on television.

“It took a while before I was relaxed enough to really let it go, which is the weird thing about kind of growing up in public. It’s an odd laugh, but I quite like it.”

The show “Last One Laughing UK” starts airing on Amazon Prime Video from the 20th of March (Thursday). In this competition, comedian David Walliams pits 10 of Britain’s top comedians against each other by having them spend a day together without laughing. The last one to crack a smile is declared the winner.

While competing against one another, they must be mindful of unexpected appearances by comedians, changes in the program structure, and shocking plot twists.

The line-up for the show, which also features Roisin Conaty as a special guest, includes Bob Mortimer, Daisy May Cooper, Joe Lycett, Judi Love, Rob Beckett, Sara Pascoe, Lou Sanders, Joe Wilkinson, Harriet Kemsley and Richard Ayoade.

When the show was first announced, Carr said in a statement: “I’m thrilled to be making Last One Laughing UK with Prime Video. It’s sure to deliver and if it doesn’t, it will leave the fun with your neighbours. Usually when I make a TV show with 10 brilliant comics, I’m expecting everyone to have a bloody good laugh – but not in this series.

“The last one laughing wins. It’s a great format and it’s been a huge hit around the world. I can’t wait to see who cracks up first.”
