Warning: Reveals significant plot points from the Emmerdale episode airing on the 18th of March, 2025, which can now be streamed on ITVX.
Two ongoing storylines came together in an unexpected twist in the latest dramatic edition of Emmerdale, as the aftermath of Joe Tate’s (Ned Porteous) secret reveal played out.
As a film enthusiast, I’m sharing a poignant moment from my life. Struggling daily with chronic kidney disease, I found myself in a difficult position with my beloved Dawn Fletcher, played by Olivia Bromley. When I wasn’t at my best, I had to make the heart-wrenching decision to push her away.
But as a new day ‘dawned’, Joe was on much better form and he tried to win her over, with Dr Crowley unimpressed that Joe was prioritising a woman over his health and their ultimate goal.
Which brings us to Joe’s scheme: to acquire a kidney donor by any means possible.
Joe insisted he wanted a relative for the job, but with Crowley pointing out that he was running out of time, he wondered if Joe was prepared to die in his efforts to do things his own way.

While Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) continued to feel anxious about settling her blackmailer’s demands, who had threatened to reveal that she posted explicit content online.
Upon encountering Joe at the cricket pavilion, Manpreet was taken aback and immediately confronted him in a heated manner.
Joe maintained his innocence by asserting he wasn’t Manpreet’s blackmailer, and later proposed to provide Manpreet with funds to settle the debt owed to the unknown individual.
But in a call to Crowley, it was revealed to viewers that the pair had set up the whole thing, with Joe acting as Manpreet’s saviour in a staged meeting with a random man to hand over the cash.
After telling Manpreet that she didn’t need to pay him back, Joe claimed that he had inherited a genetic condition called AAT (or AATD), which Manpreet recognised as Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, from paternal grandfather Frank Tate (Norman Bowler).
Joe feigned concern for his uncle, Frank’s only living son, Caleb Miligan (William Ash), and unsubtly hinted that Manpreet could help by obtaining a blood sample for Joe to hand over to his consultants.
Of course, Joe’s real plan was to have the blood tested to find out if Caleb was a match as a kidney donor for him.
After suggesting an idea to Manpreet, Joe subtly implied that she wouldn’t be able to assist him in such a manner.
In the small town, it was evident that Joe had made up his mind about the individual whom he believed could be instrumental in his survival.
It appears that Caleb might be in grave danger, as recent Emmerdale spoilers suggest he will disappear next week during a time when he was meant to spend time with those close to him.
Has Caleb ended up in the clutches of Joe and Crowley?
