Sony is tightening up on inappropriate content on the PlayStation Network with some fresh adjustments. They’ve unveiled a new tool they’re calling “Nudge,” designed to minimize exposure to potentially offensive material. As of now, this feature isn’t being rolled out extensively, but rather Sony has chosen a “selective and randomized launch” in both the U.S. and the U.K. The specifics of how limited this launch is haven’t been disclosed.
As a dedicated PlayStation user, I’m thrilled about the latest feature that Sony has rolled out. Now, it empowers us players with the ability to reconsider any potentially harmful content we’re about to send via PSN messaging, specifically within the PlayStation App chat. This thoughtful addition allows us to modify our messages before they reach others, ensuring a safer and more respectful gaming community.
Starting from now, PlayStation Network users can manually adjust their content to avoid system flagging. This action will prevent any additional human review beyond this automated response. However, if they choose not to heed this advice and submit the content nonetheless, there’s a possibility of issues arising. At present, such problems only occur if the recipient reports the message, as is the current setup.
It’s important to mention that this is an initial release of the system. To be more precise, messages that seem to breach the Code of Conduct at random will trigger this novel feature and be subjected to it.
Sony’s new feature allows players to pause, review, and potentially revise their messages before sending them to another player. However, the player also has the option to send the message as originally written. We envision this feature serving as a tool similar to object detection in cars, helping players take preventative action and avoid errors before they occur.
It’s unclear when or how this newly announced feature will become available across all platforms, as Sony hasn’t revealed any specific details about it yet. However, what they have mentioned is that fostering positive play is a key aspect of the PlayStation experience, and their goal is to encourage more friendly interactions among players. In essence, it seems like this new Nudge feature is just one step in their ongoing efforts. At present, the Nudge functionality is only accessible through the PlayStation App, and not as part of messaging within PSN on either the PS5 or PS4 consoles themselves.
Sony emphasizes their ongoing commitment to enhancing the gaming experience on PlayStation by utilizing innovative features such as nudges and advanced safety measures, aiming to maintain its status as the premier destination for play and interaction among gamers.
