Digimon Adventure: Beyond Anime Debuts New Adult DigiDestined: Watch

The “Digimon” series is currently commemorating its anime’s 25th anniversary by debuting a new anime titled “Digimon Adventure: Beyond,” which showcases an adult team of DigiDestined characters. Originally premiered in Japan in 1999, the franchise gained significant popularity once it was introduced to North America and other international markets. The initial series proved to be so successful for Bandai and Toei Animation that “Digimon” has frequently revisited the original eight DigiDestined over the years with official sequels, film projects, and more. This time around, fans will likely witness their favorite characters in action one last time.

In a nod to the 20th anniversary of Digimon, Digimon Adventure Last Evolution Kizuna was initially released, reuniting the original eight DigiDestined at mature ages not previously depicted. The story concluded with a hint that the tales of Tai and Matt were nearing their conclusion, but they’ve made a comeback along with the older versions of the DigiDestined for one last adventure. This year at DigimonCon 2025, a special music video titled Digimon Adventure: Beyond was unveiled; you can watch it in the video provided above.

What Is Digimon Adventure: Beyond?

Hiroyuki Kakudo, who previously directed the initial seasons of “Digimon Adventure” anime, is back to helm “Digimon Adventure: Beyond”, a special music video for the Digimon Con 2025 event this year. Set after the occurrences of “Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning” (which follows “Digimon Adventure Last Evolution Kizuna”), this new anime focuses on the eight original DigiDestined characters that we first met in the early days of the anime, now portrayed as grown-ups to reflect the passage of time.

Over time, I’ve noticed that the original DigiDestined characters have undergone a fascinating evolution within these grand anniversary projects. In “Last Evolution Kizuna,” they returned as mature versions of their original anime selves, and this trend continued in “Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning” which reunited the crew from the second season for their swan song journey. However, since there aren’t many age stages to explore beyond this, it seems like we might be witnessing the final anime adventure featuring these beloved characters.

How to Catch Up With Digimon

Sadly, since Digimon departed from Hulu earlier this year, it’s not straightforward to revisit the initial anime series. All that’s available now is the revamped version of the franchise, which emerged after the premiere of Last Evolution Kizuna. This latest anime, titled Digimon Adventure:, debuted in 2020 and introduced a fresh take on the eight original DigiDestined for a new journey within the digital world. The result was quite unlike anything fans had anticipated before.

In a fresh and exciting twist, Digimon Adventure: (re)introduced the franchise in a way that retained some familiar elements from the original series, but took it to an entirely new level of complexity. For instance, this version showcased every single Mega Evolution, which was previously unseen, and pitted Tai and his team against adversaries far greater than anything fans initially anticipated. Essentially, it provided a revitalizing breath for classic fans while offering a completely novel experience for new viewers. You can now stream this reboot on Crunchyroll if you’re eager to give it a watch.
