As a die-hard movie fan, I’m thrilled to share that after embodying Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe, Jason Momoa is stepping into the role of Lobo for James Gunn’s reboot of the DC Universe. This character has always been one I’ve been eager to play, and I’ve been diligently preparing for my debut in 2026’s “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.” Known for his colorful vernacular, Lobo has a unique set of curses that he delights in using. In an interview with ComicBook to publicize “A Minecraft Movie” (hitting theaters on April 4th), I revealed two of the infamous Lobo curse words I’ve been perfecting!
In simpler terms, “Momoa mentioned that we’ve been using ‘fraggin” and ‘bastich’ frequently,” he added with a hint of what his Lobo character might say in the former phrase.
Following James Gunn’s appointment as co-head of DC Studios, Jason Momoa has been actively advocating for the role of Lobo. Both parties have emphasized that their interpretation of Lobo in the DC Universe will remain faithful to the comics, with Momoa himself stating that his portrayal in ‘Supergirl’ bears a strong resemblance to the comic book version. Gunn has mentioned that casting Momoa for this role was part of the plan all along, despite the actor’s previous roles within the DC Universe.
The movie titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is currently being made, set to hit theaters in June 2026. In this production, Milly Alcock takes on the leading role as Supergirl, making her first appearance in the DC Universe in this year’s “Superman”. Specifics about the plot are being kept secret, and it remains unclear how Jason Momoa’s character Lobo factors into the storyline. Nevertheless, Momoa has hinted that his part is likely a minor one with limited screen time.
Woman of Tomorrow aims to secure a PG-13 rating, using Lobo’s unique language can be an entertaining method for the movie to bypass strict language guidelines for film ratings. Given that Momoa’s role might not have extensive screen time, incorporating some “fraggings” into the dialogue shouldn’t pose significant problems.
Woman of Tomorrow, hoping it will be well-liked and set the stage for future appearances. James Gunn wouldn’t have chosen an actor of Momoa’s caliber if there weren’t significant plans for Lobo within DC Studios. Although each DCU project is designed to work independently, they will also share connections; Momoa’s role in Supergirl might serve as a starting point for another film or series later on. Given that Momoa was one of the most popular fan choices for Lobo for quite some time now, it’ll be thrilling to see what Gunn and his team have planned for him.
