Looney Tunes Movie Takes Off: Why Everyone’s Talking About It!

The latest “Looney Tunes” movie, titled “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie,” featuring the iconic duo Daffy Duck and Porky Pig, has been dominating Blu-ray sales. This is the first full-length, fully-animated “Looney Tunes” film to hit the big screen, and despite earning a Tweety Bird-sized box office gross (approximately $6 million worldwide), it’s currently the top family film at the box office. Furthermore, “The Day the Earth Blew Up” is now Amazon’s No. 1 bestselling movie.

Before its official release on May 27th, advance orders for “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie” Blu-ray have outperformed comedy genre rivals such as “Mickey 17” (currently at No. 4), “Novocaine” (No. 5), and the computer-animated “Dog Man” (No. 6) in terms of sales volume. You can reserve your copy now on Amazon.

Ketchup Entertainment, a self-reliant film financing and production company, took over the revival of the project “The Day the Earth Blew Up“, which was initially conceived for the streaming service Max (formerly HBO Max) owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, and Cartoon Network. The project had been put on hold and offered to other platforms in 2022.

Last summer, the Warner Bros. Animation film made its debut at the Annecy Animation Festival. Later, Ketchup Entertainment secured the North American distribution rights from GFM Animation. As a result, they scheduled the U.S. and Canadian theatrical release for March 14.

To date, “The Day the Earth Blew Up” has earned approximately $6 million worldwide. In the United States and Canada alone, it has grossed about $3.96 million in 2,827 theaters. Additionally, it has made an extra $2.1 million overseas.

Despite ending its theatrical run as the least profitable Looney Tunes film, surpassed by Space Jam (1996), Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021), and Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2003), The Day the Earth Blew Up can still be considered a triumph. This is because it showcases the increasingly rare hand-drawn animation style, which has been struggling lately. Additionally, following this film’s release, the entire library of classic Looney Tunes cartoon shorts was removed from Max, leaving fans disappointed. However, there’s good news for Wile E. Coyote: Ketchup is reportedly in talks to acquire the shelved live-action/animated hybrid movie, Coyote vs. Acme, which Warner Bros. abandoned for a tax write-off in 2023, potentially giving Coyote his day in court at last.

In the film titled “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie“, it’s Porky Pig and Daffy Duck, both voice acted by Eric Bauza, who become Earth’s last line of defense against an alien invasion led by The Invader (Peter MacNicol). This exciting production hailing from the minds behind “Looney Tunes Cartoons” and directed by Pete Browngardt can be seen in cinemas now, with a Blu-ray release scheduled for May 27.
