Little House on the Prairie Star Jack Lilley Passes Away at 91: A Heartfelt Tribute

The cast of Little House on the Prairie is in mourning.

It is with sad news that I share the passing of Jack Lilley, a versatile actor who graced our screens with various roles during the ’70s and ’80s on popular TV series. This information has been verified by his granddaughter. At the time of his death, he was 91 years old.

Savannah Dawn Lilley posted on Instagram March 20th: “The one who initiated everything – symbolically and concretely,” she wrote. “He was the gambler, the negotiator, the herder, the man with a tale for any occasion, he had connections to get things done if he couldn’t, often recognized as friend, narrator, joker, and an exceptional horse rider, but his most cherished title was PAPA.

Tonight, Jack joined his beloved wife, Irene. He simply couldn’t endure any more time apart from her. The impact you made on this world is immense, dear Papa. Your laughter and the twinkle in your eyes whenever you were around the people you cherished will remain etched in our memories forever.

In a touching tribute on social media, Melissa Gilbert, who starred in “Little House on the Prairie” alongside Jack, paid homage to her cherished co-star.

She posted on Instagram on March 21st, “Our little home suffered a profound loss. One of its members was someone I held dear, one of my most cherished individuals in this world.

As a young child, I was taught the art of horseback riding by someone who showed remarkable patience and understanding. Whenever I excitedly asked if we could go for a ride, he never refused, no matter how many times I did so. He would respond with a warm smile and say yes, always encouraging my enthusiasm.

The actress made sure to note his acting prowess, too.

In addition to standing in for Victor French in photos, he had significant appearances across various characters in the show “Little House“, she noted. Furthermore, his exceptional talent is evident in the movie “Blazing Saddles“.

In about 2002, Melissa shared an unexpected incident; she began shooting a possible new TV show’s pilot unaware that Jack was going to be involved as well.

On my first day at the filming location, it felt unreal,” she penned. “As I approached the set, a familiar shout echoed through the air, ‘Hey Pint-sized One, you aged scoundrel!’ It was Jack. He had been our wrangler for that initial project and standing beside him was Denny Allen, who we worked with on Little House. In that moment, it became clear to me – I was back where I belonged.

The actress remarked, “To me, Jack was like a home I’ve always known. He led an extraordinary life, and I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have him as my friend.
