In the realm of animated entertainment, Liden Films and Aniplex have released an exciting new trailer for their upcoming “Kamen Rider“-inspired anime titled “Tojima Tanzaburo Wants to Be a Kamen Rider“. This captivating manga follows the story of a middle-aged fan who, unexpectedly, gains the powers of his beloved childhood hero. Aniplex initially revealed an adaptation with a teaser trailer showcasing images from the original manga. The official trailer, premiered at AnimeJapan 2025, offers actual footage from the forthcoming anime. The new clip, posted by the anime’s official X account, delves into Tanzaburo’s youthful years spent emulating his idol, “Kamen Rider”, and later depicts his solitary existence as a middle-aged otaku immersed in Kamen Rider memorabilia.
The storyline revolves around the concept of childhood dreams coming true as Tanzaburo acquires powers akin to those seen in Kamen Rider. This animated series explores topics such as solitude, mid-life introspection, pursuing ambitions, and self-confidence. Notably, Katsuyuki Konishi, an accomplished voice actor recognized for his roles in Gurren Lagann and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, will be providing Tanzaburo’s voice. Additionally, Aniplex and Liden Films have released a new poster for Tojima Tanzaburo Wants to Be a Kamen Rider, featuring the main character wearing a Kamen Rider mask with tears streaming down his face as he prepares to deliver a powerful punch. The original manga is penned by Yokusaru Shibata, and the anime adaptation will debut in 2025 under the direction of Touko Machida for scripts.
Why You Should Keep an Eye on Tojima Tanzaburo Wants to Be a Kamen Rider
In contrast to anime and live-action tokusatsu series, which typically cater more towards younger audiences and rarely feature older characters, the show “Tojima Tanzaburo Wants to Be a Kamen Rider” challenges this norm. The protagonist, Tojima Tanzaburo, is a middle-aged man who feels as if he’s missed out on life. However, this series demonstrates that it’s never too late for new experiences and personal growth, even at the age of 40. By becoming a hero in the story, Tojima Tanzaburo shows us that it’s possible to fulfill dreams and become what you’ve always wanted to be, no matter your age.
Most significantly, Tojima embodies the typical enthusiast. He’s a secluded aficionado of tokusatsu who felt his life was misspent. There’s an emotional resonance in portraying a passionate fanboy achieving their dream late in life, underscoring that it’s never too late for us. The debut trailer aims to inspire fans, depicting the character seizing the opportunity to accomplish what they’ve always yearned to do.
Kamen Rider’s Other Anime Series
I had the pleasure of witnessing the creation of the original manga “Tanzaburo Tojima Wants To Be A Kamen Rider,” which was a joint effort between author Shibtata, Monthly Hero’s magazine, Ishimori Production, and Toei. Prior to this manga, there was an anime adaptation of the manga continuation of the famous “Kamen Rider W,” titled “Fuuto PI.” This anime ran for one season with 12 episodes in the year 2022, leading up to a film called “Fūto Tantei: Kamen Rider Skull no Shōzō” in 2024.
