In the manga of Black Butler, the Emerald Witch arc is a highly acclaimed major storyline, comprising 21 chapters. For longtime fans, this is often considered one of its finest. The plot weaves together gothic elements related to werewolves with Yana Toboso’s distinctive blend of campy, otherworldly intrigue. This arc not only escalates the already intense tension from the Public School arc, where we discovered Undertaker poses a greater danger than previously imagined, but also offers a peek into the world beyond Ciel’s narrow perspective.

While Ciel is on his relentless pursuit of revenge against the cult responsible for his family’s demise, we, as viewers, aren’t privy to many of the personal struggles Ciel endures in his quest for truth about his family’s fate. This arc provides a fascinating exploration of Ciel’s world, offering insights that challenge and expand our understanding of this complex character.

As I watch the unfolding events in the Emerald Green arc, it’s clear that Ciel is confronting demons he’s long kept hidden, a consequence of the curse laid upon him. Meanwhile, Sebastian, his demonic ally bound to him until their pact is complete, is tirelessly safeguarding the Phantomhive household. This makes me wonder if CloverWorks plans to adapt the entire series, given that the Blue Cult arc, the ninth in the manga, seems poised to unravel all the mysteries hinted at during the Emerald Witch anime. With fans eagerly anticipating a conclusion after a decade-long wait for the anime’s return, it seems only fitting for CloverWorks to commit to delivering a satisfying resolution.
