Arguably the most talked about PlayStation exclusive of all time turns 10-years-old today.
Initially launched only on PlayStation 4, Bloodborne is now recognized as a modern masterpiece. The game, developed by FromSoftware, infuses cosmic horror elements into their well-established Soulslike combat style, encouraging players to opt for relentless assault over defense for a more rewarding experience.
In our initial critique of the game titled “Push Square”, we bestowed it with a score of 9 out of 10. The review highlighted: “Bloodborne delights in its distinct, albeit challenging, approach to amusement.
Although the game received accolades for its artistic merits, its technical execution fell short in several areas. To this very day, it’s limited to running at 30 frames per second, accompanied by inconsistent frame timing and a multitude of other technical issues.
This version maintains the original meaning while making the text more accessible and easier to read for most audiences.
A non-authorized modification allowing for increased game frame rate became popular online, but Sony’s legal team objected to it, issuing a DMCA takedown notice. It’s important to note that Sony objected primarily to the use of their trademarked name in the patch, rather than the specific content of the unofficial fix itself.
For quite a while, there’s been a growing desire among people for either a remastered version or a new take on something, and that enthusiasm has been building up steadily.
In an interview earlier this year, the former head of PS Studios, Shuhei Yoshida (who was involved in the original game’s signing) suggested that the quietness surrounding Bloodborne might be due to its creator, Hidetaka Miyazaki, being extremely busy. Yoshida hypothesized that Sony, out of respect for Miyazaki, may have chosen not to work on the project unless he was directly involved.
On such special milestones like God of War’s 20th anniversary, significant game announcements are often made. Today, the Bloodborne community is eagerly anticipating some form of acknowledgement or news from their publisher, Sony.
We personally think that a remake or remaster of the grim gothic adventure might happen someday, but we’re not anticipating it to be released anytime soon.
It’s possible that, similar to Demon’s Souls, Bluepoint Games might receive the rights to re-create this classic game for the PlayStation 6. Such a title would make an incredible debut game!
