Jon M. Chu is not entertaining any toxic rumors.
After much chatter online about potential candidates such as Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, and Millie Bobby Brown for the role of Britney Spears in an upcoming biopic, the director of “Wicked” clearly clarified the situation.
Jon stated on X (previously known as Twitter), on March 23, that it’s all untrue. He clarified that there haven’t been any discussions regarding the casting of this film yet. The project is still far from being developed. My apologies for any confusion.

It’s not the first occasion that speculation has arisen about the biopic inspired by Britney Spears’ memoir, “The Woman in Me.” In fact, Britney Spears’ former assistant, Felicia Culotta, might have fueled some of the rumors and fan suggestions herself back in August when she hinted that Emma Roberts would be an ideal choice for the role.
How did the actress from American Horror Story respond to Felicia’s idea? She conveyed her gratitude for being considered and enthusiastically agreed that she would delight in taking on the role.
Emma shared with Cosmopolitan during that very month, “I gushed something like, ‘I adore her personal aide,'” followed by adding, “You know, playing Britney Spears is my ultimate aspiration.
Despite her clarification that the casting was indeed just a rumor initially, the 34-year-old still held out hope that it might become reality.
The Scream Queens actress explained that she had once secluded herself in her room, immersed herself in listening to “In the Zone“, and vowed not to step out until she had committed every single line to memory.
Fans can take comfort in knowing that the “Womanizer” singer is actively involved in creating some of the film’s enchantment. In fact, she expressed her approval and shared why she believes producer Marc Platt is ideally suited to transform her narrative into reality.
britney shared on X that she’s been secretly collaborating with #MarcPlatt, expressing her eagerness for the partnership as he’s responsible for some of her favorite films. Keep an eye out for more details!
