Sam Nivola is dishing on that scene from The White Lotus.

The actor, known for portraying Lochlan Ratliff in season three of Mike White’s HBO series, reminisced about shooting the threesome scene with Patrick Schwarzenegger (Saxon) and Charlotte Le Bon (Chloe), who were part of their drug-filled romantic entanglement, during filming.

In an interview, Sam shared with Variety that in the show’s scene, both he and Patrick were portrayed as brothers, who had only met the day prior to this encounter. He found it peculiar to kiss Patrick because he is a close friend of his, and they are both straight individuals. This situation was already strange for him.

The 21-year-old went on to say, “If this had been our initial encounter, it would have felt less challenging. Strangely enough, I found it simpler to accomplish tasks with Charlotte since there was no pressure involved as she was someone I’d just recently met.

Since Sam had developed a profound bond with Patrick, having worked together extensively over several weeks by then (a relationship he was quite familiar with), the necessity of filming an intimate scene with him echoed the unease portrayed by their on-screen personas.

The “Perfect Couple” actor put it this way, “Patrick had always felt more like my brother to me.” He added, “It somehow seemed wrong or awkward.

Adding fuel to the fire was that it was Sam’s first time ever filming a sex scene.

He confided that he was extremely anxious, explaining, “Being me, I’m typically quite tense, and this was especially true for such a significant task. Filming the intimate scene was nerve-wracking, and being on a boat made it even more stressful since I tend to get motion sickness. However, the actual execution of the scene went well. Mike White was reassuring, and I had full faith in Patrick and Charlotte.

Additionally, although the actor for White Noise received indications during casting that there could be sexual involvement between his character and Patrick’s, he did not fully verify this until he was on his way to Thailand to commence filming the season.

I once chatted with Patrick Schwarzenegger, and during an audition, there was a scene where Chloe said something like, ‘Didn’t your brother masturbate you last night? You don’t recall it?’ To which he replied, ‘No, I was completely out of it.’ This made me curious.
