In a distressing episode of EastEnders, Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James) experienced deep trauma following harsh and unexpected actions by the police.
One day, during a truancy incident, Avani and friends Amy Mitchell (Ellie Dadd) and Lily Slater (Lillia Turner) found themselves in trouble with the law. In the midst of this situation, a drug dealer named Marvin accidentally dropped a bag of pills at Avani’s feet. This unfortunate event led to accusations against Avani for possessing an excess amount of illegal substances.
Since neither mom Priya (Sophie Khan Levy) nor dad Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara) could be reached on the phone, Avani was escorted by another suitable adult as she learned that a search would be necessary, which involved removing her clothes.
At first, Avani didn’t seem too concerned about the situation and was even mocking the proposed action. However, things changed when the female officers warned they would cuff her if she continued to resist.
Or more informally:
Initially, Avani didn’t seem bothered by the situation, even making sarcastic comments about it. But things got serious when the female cops threatened to put her in handcuffs if she didn’t comply.
Even after Avani consented, she was taken aback to discover that she’d need to remove all her clothing, even her undergarments.
In more troubling developments, the women subsequently instructed Avani to stoop over while unclothed, resulting in a chill, fearful, and embarrassed state for her.
Or:
In further upsetting events, the women subsequently made Avani lower herself while bare, leaving her shivering, frightened, and ashamed.
Both sentences convey the same meaning but use different wordings to create variety and improve readability.
After failing to discover any drugs on Avani, they requested her to put her signature on a document, following which her step-grandmother, Suki Panesar-Unwin (played by Balvinder Sopal), came to pick her up.
After a male officer described the incident, Suki felt enraged and considered filing a complaint. However, reserved Avani discouraged her from doing so, and later, in the Square, Suki aimed a harsh remark at Amy before heading back into her residence.
Ignorantly, Priya’s carelessness caused distress to Avani. A heated argument followed when Avani urged her mother to physically punish her. However, Priya vehemently denied ever intending to harm her daughter in such a way.
When the mother discovered, with great anger, that Avani had undergone a full body search at age fifteen.
Instead of storming over, let’s say Priya marched determinedly towards Detective Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) to demand immediate action from him against his fellow officers.
While pursuing her mother, Avani implored her to halt, yet upon learning about the ordeal of her friend, Avani dashed away and wept in solitude.
In this solo release, actress Jamie gave an emotionally moving, captivating portrayal. However, will the authorities experience repercussions, and will unfortunate Avni find solace?
