The popular BBC mystery-thriller show, titled “The Missing,” broadcast from 2014 to 2016 across two seasons, is set to depart from Netflix. This means that viewers who subscribe to the service only have a few short weeks remaining to catch up on this gripping series before it’s gone.
I’ve found myself drawn to a captivating series that made its debut with the talented James Nesbitt leading the cast. This compelling production was brought to life by the creative minds of Harry and Jack Williams, who are also renowned for their work on gripping tales like The Tourist and Boat Story.
For a while now, it’s been accessible on Netflix for viewing, but come this coming Saturday, 12th April, it’ll no longer be there. So, if you haven’t watched it yet, now’s the perfect time to catch it before it departs!
Gladly, for viewers who may miss it beforehand or don’t have access to Netflix, this captivating series can be found streaming in its entirety on BBC iPlayer. Additionally, its spin-off/sequel series, Baptiste, is also available there for your viewing pleasure.
The initial series of The Missing centers around Tony and Emily Hughes, whose world is turned upside down when their five-year-old son Oliver disappears during a family trip to France, altering their lives irrevocably.
Over the course of eight years since the disappearance, the narrative has alternated between then and now, delving into both Tony’s personal quest to uncover the truth about his son and a nationwide investigation spearheaded by French detective Julien Baptiste.
In another development, season 2 focused on a distinct mystery of a disappearance, featuring a predominantly new ensemble headed by Keeley Hawes and David Morrissey. However, one recurring character was Julien Baptiste, portrayed by Tchéky Karyo, who later starred in his own spin-off series.
After his appearance in The Missing, Nesbitt has since taken up roles in various series such as Stan Lee’s Lucky Man, Bloodlands, Stay Close, and Suspect, and more recently, he made an appearance in the Netflix show, titled Missing You.
