Prepare for a significant farewell in the world of superhero comics as one of its most exceptional ongoing series, COPRA by Michel Fiffe, is nearing its conclusion from Image Comics. Mark your calendars for June 18th, 2025, when COPRA #50 will be available on shelves, bringing an end to the 1980s-inspired revenge narrative. This finale not only wraps up the engaging storyline but also concludes a heartwarming behind-the-scenes tale of a small press comic that found its audience and gained industry recognition throughout its journey. The miniseries, aptly titled “The Death of COPRA,” will publish its fourth and final issue on April 30th, ensuring that COPRA #50 will serve as the true culmination of this remarkable story.
For June of 2025, Image Comics is bidding a grand farewell to the popular series COPRA, penned by Fiffe with artwork to match. The story will come to an end in this 32-page issue, and there’s no question about it – this is the final chapter. There will be two different cover options: one by Fiffe and Luke McDonnell, and another by David Lafuente. The company hinted that this series will turn the revenge genre on its head, demonstrating its creative prowess once more as it embarks on its 50th and last journey into the sunset.
This week on his website, Fiffe announced some thoughts about recent news. He expressed, “Prepare for COPRA 50! It’s an incredible opportunity for me, a surreal achievement to reach the destination I’ve long aspired to.” He further explained that COPRA 50 is its own self-contained story, serving as an epilogue for those who didn’t experience the Death of Copra arc. In every other aspect, this marks the end of the tale.
In 2012, Fiffe commenced self-publishing the comic “COPRA,” which rapidly garnered a substantial online fanbase. The nostalgic revenge narrative received numerous accolades from critics, being likened to classic Suicide Squad tales and other 80s comics. Fiffe acknowledged that these works served as significant sources of inspiration for him, and the book ultimately facilitated his collaboration with some of those prominent publishing companies.
In 2019, the Image publishing company took control of COPRA, however, Fiffe’s COPRA Press imprint was kept intact. Prior to this transition, in 2014, Fiffe secured a position at Marvel Comics where he wrote twelve issues of All-New Ultimates and contributed a story for Secret Wars: Secret Love #1 following the conclusion of that series. During this period, he also worked on Captain Victory and the Galactic Rangers for Dynamite Entertainment and Bloodshot for Valiant Comics.
Among all publishers, Fiffe has contributed to the most comics at Image. In 2010, he was both writer and artist for Savage Dragon issue No. 160, followed by editing backup stories within that series for a while. Moreover, he penned and illustrated three Bloodstrike issues in 2018, as well as COPRA. Most recently, Fiffe secured his first credit at DC Comics with a tale in Superman Red & Blue issue No. 3, which was published in 2021.
As Fiffe’s renowned original series draws to a close, we can only speculate about the future, but it promises to be both a joyful and emotional goodbye. COPRA #50 is now up for pre-order and will arrive in stores on June 18th. If you haven’t yet read earlier issues, they are available in various compiled versions, and can also be found on certain digital platforms.
