Lies of P Director ‘Open’ to Co-Op Possibility in Future Projects

It’s not surprising that Lies of P‘s director, Choi Ji-won, was captivated by Nightreign’s recent network test, given the significant influence FromSoftware’s modern action games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring have had on him. This leads us to wonder: could team play potentially be introduced into Neowiz’s ominous world inspired by fairy tales?

In terms of Lies of P and its upcoming expansion Overture, it’s not planned to include cooperative play. However, if future projects, perhaps a Lies of P sequel, are on the horizon, the possibilities could be as vast as the sky itself. Eurogamer posed the question about co-op to the director, who responded:

I’ve given Nightreign a try, and I must say it felt uniquely refreshing. This experience has left me with an impression that they are innovative developers who consistently challenge themselves, their ideas, and their vision. This inspiration drives me to deliver the Overture experience in the best possible way.

Initially, Lies of P was conceptualized as a “premium, high-quality, single-player action game,” and Neowiz has certainly achieved that. However, the developer aims to surpass merely offering a fresh, unique take on what FromSoftware has previously produced, as Ji-won explains: instead, they strive to create something distinctive and exceptional within the genre.

In the future, we’re open to any new ideas or influences that may come our way… Rather than attempting to foresee where the Soulslike genre might go, our primary goal is to develop our own distinct identity and appealing aspects. Instead of categorizing us within a specific genre, we aspire for our fans to recognize the unique elements we offer, which they eagerly anticipate.
