Isn’t this an amazing time for the resurgence of retro beat-’em-up games? We’ve just seen releases like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge and Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, haven’t we?
If you’re a fan of either of those, then you should keep an eye out for Marvel Cosmic Invasion, coming out later this year. This game is being developed by Tribute Games, who are also behind Mercenary Kings and the previously mentioned Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge.
Overview: “Pick among fifteen Marvel superheroes in this fast-paced brawler game to battle against the lethal Annihilation Wave that endangers the galaxy. The fate of the Marvel cosmos will be decided from New York City to the heart of the Negative Zone, with battles taking place across the stars!

In this game, you’ll take on roles like Spider-Man, Wolverine, Captain America, and others. The chunky pixel art is breathtaking – it has a nostalgic feel reminiscent of the Super Nintendo era, yet it leverages contemporary hardware to achieve effects that would have been unattainable in the 90s.
A nifty feature in this game is that you’ll control not just one, but two characters. You can effortlessly switch between them on the fly, allowing for diverse strategies and the creation of unique combos. This mechanic is quite exciting, encouraging you to delve deep into the variety of characters available.
Additionally, consistent with the development team responsible for Shredder’s Revenge, this game will incorporate a cooperative mode that allows players to join or leave seamlessly, supporting both local and online multiplayer sessions.
There’s no release date just yet, but the title’s coming to the PS5 and PS4 in 2025.
