Japan Sales Charts: Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Bleach: Rebirth of Souls Struggle on PS5

This past week has seen quite a few new releases for the PlayStation 5, yet they haven’t made much of a dent in the recent Japanese sales rankings. Keep in mind, however, that these figures exclude digital sales.

The star of the show is Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which sold only 17,700 units on Sony’s platform. Despite Ubisoft’s series not traditionally performing well in Japan, there was hope that this new edition, set during the feudal 16th century of Japan, would have a stronger impact due to its setting.

It seems that Ghost of Tsushima, which was a massive hit in Japan for Sony and Sucker Punch, might not achieve similar popularity for Shadows. Regrettably, it appears that it may not receive the same level of success. However, it’s worth noting that Japanese critics have given it positive reviews.

In other regions, Bleach: Rebirth of Souls didn’t make much impact with only 6,000 copies sold. One might expect stronger sales in the western world due to its stylish fighting aspect, but even so, this is a remarkably small number considering how popular the Bleach manga and anime franchise once was.

Well, it’s fantastic news that Atelier Yumia has been thriving! Interestingly, Koei Tecmo’s latest RPG sold more on PS5 than on Nintendo Switch by approximately 1,000 copies. These small triumphs are worth celebrating!
