A young child proved to his babysitter that sometimes monsters are indeed hiding under the bed.
At a residence in Grand Bend, Kansas, on March 24, a babysitter made a shocking find when she uncovered a man, later identified by the sheriff’s office as Martin Villalobos Jr., aged 27, concealed beneath a child’s bed.
As reported by Barton County Sheriff’s Office on their Facebook post on March 26th, a young woman discovered Villalobos following a complaint from one of the children in her care about “monsters.” In an attempt to reassure the child that there was nothing under the bed, she demonstrated this.
However, the young woman stood corrected.
The babysitter encountered a man she later discovered was a suspect, hidden in that location. A scuffle broke out between them, causing one of the children to be accidentally knocked down during the commotion. Before the authorities arrived, the suspect hurriedly left the premises.
According to the sheriff’s office, the babysitter managed to recognize the suspect as Villalobos. Previously, Villalobos resided at the house, but due to a restraining order resulting from domestic abuse, he was ordered to keep his distance from the property.
Law enforcement officials showed up at the residence around 10:30 p.m., prompted by a call about a disturbance. The sheriff’s office statement confirmed this. Upon arrival, they couldn’t immediately locate Villalobos in the vicinity of the Grand Bend home. He was spotted by law enforcement the next day and, according to police, tried to escape on foot. However, he was eventually apprehended after a brief chase on foot.
According to the sheriff’s statement, Villalobos was taken into custody at Barton County jail for charges that include aggravated kidnapping, burglary, battery, endangering a child, obstructing a law enforcement officer, and violating a protection order. He is currently being detained with a bond set at $500,000.
As per a court warrant from Barton County District Court, Villalobos was taken into custody on March 14 due to allegedly breaking a protective order. His bail was fixed at $2,500.
TopMob News contacted the Barton County Sheriff’s Office in an attempt to get their perspective and sought legal counsel for Villalobos.
