Let‘s take a stroll down memory lane to 2007: Gordon Brown assumed the role of Prime Minister while Nancy Pelosi made history as the first female Speaker of the House. We were all donning band t-shirts and cardigans from New Look, and pleading with our moms to play A Guide To Love, Loss & Desperation in the car.
The band known as The Wombats, consisting of lead vocalist and guitarist Matthew “Murph” Murphy, drummer Dan Haggis, and bassist Tord Øverland Knudsen, are among the most well-liked indie rock groups in the United Kingdom.
2007 saw the release of the band’s first studio album, A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation, which reached a peak position of number 11 on the UK albums chart. This remarkable album produced four top 40 hits, including Kill the Director and Moving to New York.
Our friend lent us The Wombats’ second album, titled “The Wombats Proudly Present This Modern Glitch,” before a Duke of Edinburgh camping trip in 2011. This sophomore record peaked at number three on the UK charts and produced popular tracks such as Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves), Jump Into the Fog, and Anti-D.
Although they originated in the early 2000s, it’s clear that The Wombats continue to be popular, as evidenced by their announcement of a second tour in 2025, with tickets available for purchase starting today.
