Yesterday’s Nintendo Direct presentation was jam-packed with numerous announcements, primarily focusing on upcoming games destined for their portable hybrid console, the Nintendo Switch. However, an unexpected announcement wrapped up the event. The unveiling of the Nintendo Today! app was made, teasing major updates from the creators of Super Mario. Despite appearing peculiar as a closing act, it seems that Nintendo isn’t joking about delivering significant news through their freshly launched news platform.
Today, the Nintendo Today! app unveiled exciting news about their upcoming feature film. One of Nintendo’s most acclaimed video game franchises is The Legend of Zelda, a creation of Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka. This action-adventure series is often praised by critics, making it a strong candidate for a live-action adaptation. Iconic games such as Ocarina of Time, A Link to the Past, and Breath of the Wild have captivated both fans and critics alike, leaving a lasting impact on the gaming world. The enchantment of these games will soon be brought to life in a live-action film, scheduled for release in theaters on March 26, 2027, as per the announcement made on the Nintendo Today! app (as reported by Wario64 on Twitter).

Previously, it was revealed that Nintendo would collaborate with Sony Pictures for a big-screen portrayal of Zelda and Link. Avi Arad has been appointed as the producer, while Wes Ball, known for “The Maze Runner” and “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”, is still on board to direct the live-action adaptation of “The Legends of Zelda” movie.
For quite some time now, I’ve been collaborating with Avi Arad on the live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. Avi is known for producing numerous blockbuster films. In a previous statement, I shared that we’ve started developing this film with Nintendo playing an active role in production. While it will take time to finish, I’m excited and hopeful that you’ll enjoy seeing the final product when it’s ready.
The lineup for the “The Legend of Zelda” movie has yet to be revealed. It remains unclear whether the film will present an entirely new tale or draw inspiration from one of the popular Nintendo series’ renowned stories.
