Additionally, a fan on X noted that Ariana seems to reference the song “pov” from her 2020 album Positions. In the track “Hampstead”, she sings about preferring to be seen alive than dying by someone else’s perspective. Interestingly, in the chorus of “pov”, Ariana actually sings about wanting to see herself from that same person’s point-of-view.

Essentially, the song “Hampstead” by Ariana could be interpreted as a commentary on fans’ habit of dissecting her lyrics closely, particularly those from her “eternal sunshine” era, which seem to reflect her dissatisfaction with the tabloid portrayal of the end of her marriage. In a scene from the music video that accompanies her deluxe album release, Ariana portrays a woman reminiscent of Frankenstein’s monster who is torn apart by stray cats while “Hampstead” is played.

Speaking from personal experience, I’ve taken a firm stance against the sensationalized portrayals of my divorce and subsequent relationship with Ethan that have been circulating in the media.

Last year, Ariana shared with Vanity Fair that she underwent numerous life changes while filming this movie, which lasted for two years. The hardest aspect for her was witnessing many people accepting the most negative portrayal of those events. Undeniably, it was quite a challenging journey to endure.
