The battle between the Spider-Verse and Venomverse is expected to lead to a new outfit for Spider-Man. Many fans are already acquainted with the Spider-Verse, particularly following the financial triumph of Sony’s Spider-Verse animated films. These movies are based on the Spider-Verse stories found in the comics, which depict a multiverse teeming with Spider heroes such as Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, Spider-Ham, Spider-Punk, and others. Marvel has been gradually constructing a Venomverse for the symbiotes and their hosts, and this duo will soon clash in Spider-Verse vs. Venomverse. A sneak peek at forthcoming covers hints at the costume that one of the Spider-Men will be wearing.
In contrast to the Spider-Man commonly known, who’s Peter Parker, the character we’re discussing is Takuya Yamashiro, Japan’s unique take on Spider-Man. Takuya is renowned from Toei’s Japanese Spider-Man TV series and will enter the fray to safeguard the Spider-Verse in July’s Spider-Verse vs. Venomverse #3, penned by writers Kyle Higgins and Mat Groom, and artist Jim Towe. This is where Takuya’s fresh costume, conceptualized by artist Luciano Vecchio, will be unveiled for the first time. Vecchio will depict the initial issue of this event series, and he offered some behind-the-scenes information about the costume creation process.

In the story, a fresh costume is presented for Takuya, which distinguishes him visually from Peter. Vecchio explained to CBR that he delved back into episodes and clips of the Japanese Spider-Man series to grasp its emotional depth and dramatic gestures, and also consulted other 80’s Tokusatsu shows for aesthetic hints like scarves and dark lenses. After exchanging ideas and references with writer Mat Groom, they finally settled on a visual concept that can be summarized as Spider-Man meets Super Sentai.
Takuya Yamashiro’s version of Spider-Man’s attire maintains a strong connection to the traditional Spider-Man aesthetic. His boots and upper arm garments feature white accents, as do the spider webs on his back that enable him to glide. A scarf adorns his neck, and the spider symbol on his chest has a white backdrop. The white detailing is also similar to the costume Peter Parker uses in the Marvel’s Spider-Man video game, available on PlayStation 4/5.
The battle between the Spider-Verse and Venomverse is showcased in a five-issue limited series. This series stems from the spin-offs Web of Spider-Verse: New Blood and Web of Venom: Fresh Brands, each comic focusing on distinct aspects of the upcoming conflict. In Web of Spider-Verse: New Blood, we’ll encounter new characters such as Spider-Prowler, a fresh take on Spider-Hulk, and Count Parker, a vampiric figure. On the other hand, Web of Venom: Fresh Brains will introduce a new Eddie Brock Venom (who replaced Carnage in the series Eddie Brock: Carnage), Venomouse, and Katie Power of Power Pack, who has been affected by the venom.
