Katie Thurston Reveals Her Brave Battle Against Stage 4 Cancer!

Katie Thurston is taking her fans with her on her health journey.

A former contestant on ‘The Bachelorette’ disclosed plans for her forthcoming medical procedures, following the announcement of her breast cancer progression to the liver, classifying it as stage 4.

In a recent post on Instagram Stories, I shared that my current health journey mirrors my battle with breast cancer in many ways. To clarify, the liver cancer I’m facing is actually a metastasis from the initial breast cancer, not a new type altogether. Essentially, this means that my breast cancer serves as the root cause and will be the primary focus of my treatment. To begin tackling this challenge head-on, I’ll undergo six rounds of chemotherapy.

Thurston posted a picture of her cancer port and detailed that her chemotherapy sessions would be scheduled every three weeks, mentioning, “Each session is essentially a designated day for travel, infusions, and recovery.

She mentioned that she intends to use the method known as cold capping, which involves wearing a specific helmet designed to minimize hair loss during chemotherapy treatments, and she’s considering various surgical alternatives.

In light of my current situation, it seems likely that I’ll choose to undergo a double mastectomy followed by breast reconstruction, as this procedure is covered by my insurance. I have two choices for the reconstruction: either using implants or the DIEP Flap method, which utilizes my own body fat.

Earlier in the day, the television personality made public her stage 4 diagnosis, over a month since she disclosed her breast cancer battle. She added that her treatment plan will start the following week. Additionally, she posted an update on social media six days after tying the knot with comedian Jeff Arcuri, who she had been engaged to for six months.

The comedian, with backing for Thurston, plans to restart touring in April following a 7-week hiatus. This could potentially prevent Arcuri from joining his wife for her initial cancer treatment appointments.

In an Instagram post, Thurston stated that he might not be able to attend the first three events, but there’s a chance she could visit him the very next day if needed.

Simultaneously, Thurston and her spouse are going through In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) procedures as a means of safeguarding her fertility. They’re making and storing embryos for potential use in the future.

In a post on her Instagram Stories, Thurston shared that her oncologist endorsed and agreed with her fertility treatments. She mentioned being enrolled in a rapid-track program that lasted only ten days for the preservation of embryos. Today, her oncologist emphasized to her that her efforts to preserve fertility did not affect her cancer diagnosis.

Jeff and I are considering using a gestational surrogate as our preferred method, given my health concerns and the future prospects. In other words, we believe that surrogacy will probably be the most suitable choice for us when the time arrives. As a side note, let’s try to avoid judging celebrities who opt for surrogacy, as we may not be privy to their personal circumstances.

Thurston also shared how her cancer diagnosis has shifted her outlook on life and relationships.

She expressed that over the long term, many things will transform for her. At present, she’s felt both happy and let down by those she has and hasn’t reached out to. However, it’s essential to understand that not everyone stays in your life indefinitely. Sometimes, people are just a part of a certain phase. Appreciate the time they spent with you and then continue forward.

In the midst of her cancer treatments, Thurston made it clear that she was fearless, expressing this sentiment by stating “Fear level: 0” in her writing. She also expressed feelings of sadness (7), pain (5), tiredness (10), but readiness (100).

Thurston also shared how her cancer diagnosis has shifted her outlook on life and relationships.

She remarked, “Over the long run, there will be many changes ahead for me.” In the short term, I’ve felt both contentment and letdown from those who have reached out, or failed to do so. However, it’s important to remember that not everyone is destined to stay in your life forever. Some individuals are just passing phases. Appreciate their time spent with you, and then continue on your journey.

Upon embarking on her cancer treatment journey, Thurston expressed that she is not filled with fear. Instead, she penned down her feelings as follows: “Fear level: None. Sorrow: 7, Pain level: 5, Tiredness: 10, Readiness: 100.
