Jon Lovitz Calls on Fans to Revive Beloved ’90s Show The Critic!

Title character The Critic could potentially make a comeback with a revival, as the lead actor is appealing to fans for support in making this possible. It’s been quite a rollercoaster ride for animation enthusiasts over the past few years, with some popular series being discontinued or disappearing completely. However, numerous others have managed to secure another chance with full-blown revivals or sequels. In terms of adult animation, it appears that this field is more prosperous than ever before, offering an opportunity for grown-up animated series – and particularly when reviving established names.

Animated shows for grown-ups, such as Beavis and Butt-Head, Futurama, and King of the Hill, have experienced revivals or are preparing new episodes, but one show from that time period hasn’t been mentioned much in the same discussions. That’s now changing, though, since Al Jean, creator of the series (and The Simpsons showrunner), has expressed interest in a potential comeback for The Critic. Even Jon Lovitz, the main character, has shown enthusiasm on social media about this possibility.

Is The Critic Coming Back?

As a die-hard fan, I couldn’t contain my excitement when series creator Al Jean posed a tantalizing question on social media: “Just wondering… how many of you would love to see The Critic return with the one and only @realjonlovitz back in action!” Inspired by the enthusiastic responses, Lovitz then encouraged us, the fans, to help make this dream a reality. “Critic Fans! You’ve been consistently asking for it to come back. I’ve been trying for years! Now, Al Jean is on board too! If you want it back, we need your help! Please like this post and share the word so we can show the studio just how many people are eager for its return!” The prospect of The Critic making a comeback has certainly set my heart racing. Let’s make it happen, fellow fans! #BringBackTheCritic

Lovitz and Jean expressing their intentions to revive The Critic on social media indicates a potential reality for its return. Similar to other series that have been reintroduced lately, there’s a strong possibility that The Critic could join this list of popular comebacks. However, there are hurdles to overcome as Jean has mentioned in the past that the show’s rights have hindered its return. But over the last few years, things might have shifted significantly, potentially paving the way for its revival.

What Is The Critic?

Aficionados of “The Simpsons” may recall Jon Lovitz’s character Jay Sherman from the joint episode titled “A Star is Burns.” However, “The Critic” had a fair share of popularity too, although it didn’t quite reach the same level of success due to some changes in its broadcasting network. Originally airing on ABC in 1994, it was later moved back to Fox in 1995. Despite these shifts and against all efforts to revitalize the show with fresh characters, new looks, and numerous innovations, it was unfortunately cancelled after only two seasons. However, the show consistently maintained its critical view of Hollywood throughout its run.

In this rephrased version, we follow the character named Jay Sherman, who is a film critic, as he juggles his work of reviewing movies, pleasing his superiors, and spending time with his son. The show was quite distinctive and could easily fit into today’s movie industry landscape. Given that movie production and promotion have evolved, having Jay adapt to these changes while preserving his critical essence would make for an engaging contemporary viewing experience.
