In recent times, Godzilla has undergone some transformations to maintain its title as The King of Monsters. Within the realm of The MonsterVerse, the lizard ruler boosted its power by taking in energy from other kaiju during the occurrences of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. As Legendary’s MonsterVerse keeps discovering innovative methods to expand its universe teeming with monsters, an upcoming Godzilla-centric series is set to witness this colossal creature achieving a fresh level of power that makes Godzilla appear like he belongs in the world of Dragon Ball Z.
In a new comic book series titled “Super Godzilla“, published by IDW, renowned comic creator Matt Frank will both write and illustrate. Known for his work in the kaiju universe with series like “Godzilla: Unnatural Disasters, Mothra: Queen of The Monsters“, and “Godzilla: Rage Across Time“, Frank is now set to draw inspiration from the Super Nintendo video game of the same name for this upcoming release later in the year. If you’re a fan seeking one of the most powerful versions of Godzilla yet, this series could be worth adding to your collection based on the storyline derived from its predecessor in the Nintendo franchise.
Godzilla Goes Super Saiyan
Observing here, Matt Frank has shared in his latest social media update that the forthcoming narrative will witness a significant enhancement for Godzilla, mirroring the boost provided in the Super Nintendo game named after him. In this saga, King Ghidorah is revived as “Mecha King Ghidorah,” causing havoc not only to humanity but also to Godzilla. Recognizing the need for an upgrade due to a tense alliance, mankind decides that Godzilla must be transformed to match the power of the three-headed beast. Using the “S-Energy,” humans metamorphose Godzilla into “Super Godzilla,” creating one of the most formidable versions of the legendary creature.

Godzilla’s Marvel Crossovers
In addition to IDW Comics producing more Godzilla series, the legendary monster has started squaring off against various Marvel characters. The initial installment of their joint mini-series, titled “Godzilla Vs. The Fantastic Four“, features Galactus selecting King Ghidorah as his new herald, enhancing the beast’s abilities with the Cosmic Power. To counter this fresh danger, Godzilla undergoes a significant boost in power by acquiring Silver Surfer’s abilities.
Interestingly, even in the Marvel Universe, Godzilla’s initial power-up is just one of several transformations the kaiju has undergone. Previously working on Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, artist Jared Krichevsky explained that Godzilla’s upgrade was inspired by Goku’s Kaioken attack from Dragon Ball Z, contrary to the initial assumption of Super Saiyan Rose. Krichevsky added, “I didn’t encounter Goku Rose until much later. However, I did design the transformation based on Kaio-Ken. Yes, it was always intended to be a temporary transformation. In the film, Godzilla takes in the DNA of Tiamat.
