The “Big Picture” presentation by Warner Bros. has started and is moving forward. On Tuesday at CinemaCon, the leaders of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran, made an appearance to discuss the upcoming DC films. The initial film on the schedule is “Superman,” followed by other DC universe movies such as “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” (released June 26, 2026), a Batman villain movie titled “Clayface” (Sept. 11, 2026), and Luca Guadagnino’s “Sgt. Rock,” which is set during World War II and will begin filming this summer.
Following the announcement that a unique extended trailer for Superman will play before the release of The Minecraft Movie this weekend, Gunn and Safran shared a preview reel containing behind-the-scenes footage. According to Gunn, the new Superman portrays a contemporary version of the Man of Steel, offering a tale that is both deeply human and exceptionally fantastical simultaneously.

Gunn hinted at a few intriguing concepts: “Miniature worlds” (a synonym for “pocket universes”), “magic” (similar to “sorcery”), “flying canines” (since “flying dogs” might be confusing), and “animated shorts from the 1940s,” explaining his reference to “Max Fleischer cartoons.
After that, we got a special behind-the-scenes look at Superman, featuring an extended trailer where Superman is seen crashing into the snow outside the Fortress of Solitude. A lively Krypto then guides Superman to his crystalline fortress, and the Kryptonian robot Kelex tends to Superman’s wounds using sunlight. Although this footage won’t be accessible online, fans can watch it before the Minecraft movie (hitting theaters on April 4).
Under the guidance of Gunn, Superman features David Corenswet as the titular character opposite Rachel Brosnahan portraying brave reporter Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult takes on the role of Superman’s long-time adversary Lex Luthor in this film, marking the start of the revamped DC Universe. In addition to these main characters, the movie introduces a group of superheroes such as Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner Green Lantern, Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), and Maria Gabriela de Faría playing Angela Spica/the Engineer from The Authority.
Completing the roster of characters are Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell as Jonathan and Martha Kent, Clark Kent’s adoptive parents; Sara Sampaio and Terence Rosemore as Eve Teschmacher and Otis, associates of Luthor; and Frank Grillo reprising his role from Creature Commandos as Rick Flag Sr. From The Daily Planet, Clark Kent’s colleagues include Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo), a friend to Superman, columnist Cat Grant (Mikaela Hoover), reporters Steve Lombard (Beck Bennett) and Ron Troupe (Christopher McDonald), and editor-in-chief Perry White (Wendell Pierce).

As a movie enthusiast, I’d put it this way: “James Gunn, with his unique flair, is breathing new life into the original superhero within the revamped DC Universe. He skillfully merges action, humor, and emotion, resulting in a Superman who acts out of compassion and deeply believes in humanity’s goodness.” Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros. Pictures’ President of Global Distribution, shared this perspective.
On July 11, Superman soars into cinemas. Other DC Studios films with scheduled releases are: Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (June 26, 2026), Clayface (Sept. 11, 2026), and the second installment of The Batman directed by Matt Reeves (October 1, 2027).
