Konami and developer NeoBards recently unveiled a fresh look at their upcoming horror title, tentatively known as “Silent Hill f”. They shared this new screenshot on social media platform X, accompanied by the title “Otherworld: The Dark Shrine”. Although specifics about “Silent Hill f” remain scarce, creative director Al Yang’s online conversations hint that the game could be taking cues from a renowned Japanese horror film.
In a recent update on X, Yang disclosed that NeoBards, the creators of Silent Hill, aim to present a distinct perspective on the Otherworld featured in the Silent Hill series. Notably, the Otherworld sequences in these games are frequently among their most chilling aspects, characterized by terrifying creatures and a shift towards ominous environments.
In one of his posts, Yang shared that one of the major hurdles we faced while developing the new setting for Silent Hill was crafting an engaging Otherworld with a mix of novelty and nostalgia. Additionally, when discussing favorite horror games with another user, he mentioned that he admires the 1964 Japanese horror masterpiece, Kwaidan.
In summary, “Kwaidan” is a movie that comprises four unique tales, each with its own narrative, characters, and recurring themes. The title of the film is derived from the Japanese word “kaidan,” which means “ghost story.” This movie has garnered significant acclaim, having won multiple awards at film festivals upon its release, as well as a nomination for the Academy Award in the category of Best Foreign Language Film.
The emerging information about Silent Hill f, such as it receiving content ratings from numerous international boards, suggests that a release date for the game may be imminent. Earlier in March, Konami disclosed the necessary hardware for playing the PC version of Silent Hill f. Additionally, they shared that the title would require 50 GB of storage space on your system.
Ryukishi07, creator of the game, has shared insights about his work on it and his past affinity for older versions of the classic horror series, Silent Hill. He even expressed that if Silent Hill were to be his final writing endeavor, he would find that acceptable.
Ryukishi07 expressed, “I’ve invested every ounce of my energy into crafting this story, such that the thought of it being my final work doesn’t bother me in the least.” For him, the Silent Hill series is not merely a sequence of tales, but a tool; an extraordinary, profound means to delve into and feel the essence of a person’s soul and mind. He aspires that gamers everywhere will value it as much as he does. And to our international friends, he wishes you’ll savor a glimpse of what Silent Hill could be if transposed to a different location, such as Japan.
Silent Hill f is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
One of the major hurdles we faced when designing SILENT HILL was crafting a captivating Otherworld in our fresh environment, striking a balance between novelty and familiarity.
