Nintendo has shared that Kirby will also receive a new game on the upcoming Switch 2, titled Kirby Air Rider, which was announced during the latest Switch 2 Direct presentation. Notably, the renowned Kirby creator, Masahiro Sakurai, will oversee the development of this racing game.
From what we gather, the trailer for Kirby Air Rider suggests a multiplayer mode where up to four players can join forces and enjoy the game simultaneously.
Understandably titled, “Kirby Air Riders” is a sequel to the 2003 racing game “Kirby Air Ride,” initially launched on the GameCube. In the initial game, up to four players could race simultaneously. Noteworthy, “Kirby Air Ride” marked the end of the “Kirby” series where Sakurai served as its director.
It’s significant that Sakurai is back to lead the development of a new Kirby game, given it’s been over two decades since he last did so. This could indicate that Kirby Air Rider might offer more than just a typical racing experience.
Kirby Air Riders doesn’t yet have a release date, but it is slated for launch some time in 2025.
