Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077, and 120 FPS confirmed for Switch 2. Not even that historical freeze could curb my enthusiasm during today’s Nintendo Direct

Absolutely, there was quite a bit announced! Initially, I assumed they would merely discuss a few games and provide details about Switch 2, including its release date, features, price, and preorders (by the way, those start on April 8). However, it turned out to be an entire hour of surprises, leaving me speechless. We now know what the C button is for, but there’s so much more to explore about the new possibilities that Switch 2 offers for Nintendo, which were largely unexpected.

So, Switch 2 is actually a beast?

To put it simply, when we playfully suggested Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077 might appear on the Switch 2, it was all in good fun or an exaggeration. Frankly, we never truly believed it would become reality. I recall estimating that Nintendo games could run at 60 FPS at best, but look at us now? Yes, I have to admit I feel a bit silly. And honestly, a tad embarrassed too.

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to offer a significant improvement over its predecessor, boasting an internal storage of 256GB (which is eight times larger than the original). Moreover, when connected to a 4K-compatible display, it will support resolutions up to 4K for compatible games. Additionally, Nintendo asserts that the screen can handle refresh rates of up to 120 FPS, suggesting that the new model’s specifications could be considerably more robust than the original Switch, given the variety of new and ported games they recently announced.

I’m eagerly anticipating testing out this device that was once small but has grown a bit in size. Judging from its appearance, it seems that playing more challenging games may be optimal in TV mode because the dock includes a built-in fan for additional cooling. To be honest, if the big titles appear as visually appealing as they do in trailers (yes, you can notice some reductions, but still, quite impressive), they’ll likely push this gadget to its maximum potential.
