At last, the wait is over! The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct has been and gone, delivering long-anticipated details to fans for years. The upcoming version of the popular hybrid console is almost here, offering fresh gaming experiences to those willing to shell out a slightly higher price tag than expected. During the event, the company explained the purpose of the “C” button, which connects to the console’s new Game Chat feature. Additionally, a camera accessory was unveiled, enabling its use in chat and occasionally within games. Although the initial colorway shown was sleek black, Nintendo will also release a version that aligns with their signature style.
According to Nintendo Everything’s report, a listing on MediaMarkt hinted at a Piranha Plant-themed secondary camera for the Nintendo Switch 2. As shown in the linked post below, the base resembles a rounded green pipe, featuring the console’s logo upfront. Protruding from the pipe is the familiar enemy, colored red, white, and green. Inside its mouth, the camera lens is situated – a spot where players will position themselves when playing games with friends, such as “Super Mario Party Jamboree” or “Mario Kart World”.

Distinct characteristics set the Nintendo Switch 2’s Piranha Plant camera apart. The pipe in this case serves as its base for connecting to the console. Remarkably, the Piranha Plant camera itself can be separated from the pipe, exposing a USB-C port. Additionally, the camera lens is located within a mouth that can be closed when not in use.
As a passionate gamer, I’m excited about the rumored Nintendo Switch 2, but I want to clarify something about the Piranha Plant camera. Contrary to what some might think, Nintendo isn’t the manufacturer of this accessory. Instead, it’s HORI, a well-known company for their high-quality controllers, arcade sticks, and gaming accessories, who’ve crafted this alternative version. What makes it even more appealing is its affordable price tag – on MediaMarkt, it retails at €39.99, significantly less than the official Nintendo Switch 2 camera which goes for €59.99. However, it remains to be seen if this accessory will cross the pond and reach U.S. shores.
On June 5th, both the Nintendo Switch 2 and its accompanying camera accessory will make their debut. Starting from April 9th, you can reserve your pre-order for the eagerly awaited gaming console.
