Approximately 95% of PlayStation 5 enthusiasts express disapproval towards the potential rise in game prices to $80, a scenario that might materialize following Nintendo’s pricing strategy for Mario Kart World.
Out of the 1,500 gamers surveyed, around 30% expressed reluctance but agreed to pay more for “select titles.” It’s intriguing to discover which game series these fans consider worth the extra cost; it seems likely that popular franchises such as Grand Theft Auto and God of War might be among them.
Approximately 29% of the respondents stated that they would never consider paying $80, whereas around 36% mentioned they’d prefer to wait for discounts instead.
To put it simply, some games are becoming more expensive on the PlayStation 5. This is partly due to publishers using the fear of missing out (FOMO) to sell early access versions of these games.
The game Death Stranding 2: On the Beach might cost you $70, but if you wish to play it as soon as possible, you’ll have to pay an extra $10, amounting to a total of $80 for the Digital Deluxe Edition. Keep in mind that this premium version also includes some bonus content within the game.
The worry is that if Mario Kart World becomes popular, publishers might increase the standard price of their games to $80, and even charge up to $100 for early access.
Generally speaking, for both self-published (first-party) and other developers’ (third-party) games, price reductions tend to be substantial. Therefore, if you’re willing to wait a couple of months, you could potentially save quite a bit of your hard-earned cash.
Despite Sony drawing inspiration from Nintendo and offering price reductions on their games, the lowest price currently available for a game like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is approximately $39.89, representing just a 40% discount.
It’s becoming more costly for us to pursue our passion, and it seems uncertain how we might address this issue.
