The rodeo world is mourning one of their own.
24-year-old professional bull rider Dylan Grant tragically passed away following severe injuries sustained during a competition at the Wharton County Youth Fair Xtreme Bulls event held in Wharton, Texas on April 3rd.
His father, Wade Grant, said the bull his son was riding bucked him off and then stepped on him.
In a recent interview with ABC News, I shared my experience: “Someone accidentally stepped on my neck.” After this unfortunate incident, I quickly exited the venue and made a beeline for the ambulance due to these sustained injuries.
According to a statement from the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, medical personnel swiftly transferred the bull rider into an ambulance and administered emergency care. Subsequently, he was flown by helicopter to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas, where unfortunately, he later succumbed to his injuries.
His father explained that what occurred with Dylan the previous night was extremely unusual, almost unheard of. He described it as an extraordinary event or incident. Essentially, it was an unexpected and unlikely occurrence.
Wade said his son was “double tough” and “filled with kindness.”
Dylan is also survived by his mom Tiffany and brother Derek.
In addition to participating on the University of Wyoming’s rodeo team in 2021, he claimed the bull riding championship at the Mountain States Circuit Finals Rodeo as well. It was not until 2023 that Dylan completed his studies at the university, earning a degree in Physical Education Teacher Education.
