The Black Clover manga is nearing its conclusion, but there’s no word on a new season for the anime, which was first adapted by Studio Pierrot in 2017. Unlike many contemporary series, this one ran for a long time. It aired weekly for 170 episodes before going on hiatus, as it was almost level with the manga. Despite the fact that the manga still has plenty of material left for another season, no announcement has been made yet. The narrative took a significant turn following the anime’s apparent end in 2021, featuring some intense battles in the Spade Kingdom Raid and the Final Arcs.
Spoilers Ahead for Black Clover’s Spade Kingdom Raid Arc!
In this anime, the initial scenes lay out the introduction to the Spade Kingdom Raid Saga, which sees the Magic Knights readying themselves for a full-scale battle against the Dark Triad and demons, with the aim of rescuing Yami and William. As the Queen of the Heart Kingdom has been cursed by Megicula, a devil being housed by one of the Triad’s members, they too have joined this mission. The narrative takes a dramatic turn as it delves into the hardships faced by cherished characters such as Yuno, the Second-in-Command of the Golden Dawn, throughout the arc.
Yuno Brutally Lost to Zenon In the First Round
In the anime, a particularly shocking and sad event occurred: Zenon and his followers attacked Golden Dawn with the intention of capturing their captain, William Vangeance. Tragically, this attack also resulted in the loss of half of Golden Dawn’s squad while Yuno was absent. By the time he arrived, the destruction had already taken place. Despite being able to fight off Zenon’s followers, he found himself outmatched by the combined power of the devils.
Despite wielding spirit magic, Yuno suffers defeat and is left gravely wounded, with barely a mark on his adversary. As Zenon departs with William, Yuno lies there, nearly lifeless upon the ruins of a building impaled by a sword in his chest. His survival was precarious, only made possible by the large reserves of mana that William had left behind for healing the injured squad members. However, no one can resurrect the deceased, leaving the esteemed squad with an immense emptiness.
Following the unfortunate loss of several comrades and discovering William’s grave condition after being abducted, Yuno uncovers his genuine lineage. It turns out he is not just any commoner but the true prince of the Spade Kingdom. His parents were brutally murdered by the Dark Triad who seized the throne afterwards. After this heart-wrenching event, his caretaker, Ralph, journeyed to the Clover Kingdom and safeguarded Yuno by leaving him at the church.
Yuno Awakens His True Powers In Another Fight Against Zenon
In Chapter 304, following the start of the Spade Kingdom Raid, Yuno and Langris engage in combat with Zenon. Over the past few months, they honed their skills through intense training and displayed impressive teamwork. Regrettably, their combined might proved insufficient to thwart the antagonist. Finral’s brief intervention was also fruitless as he and Langris suffered a defeat, leaving Yuno wounded from a severe injury.
In Chapter 309, when he was down and disheartened due to his loss, he unexpectedly obtained a second Grimoire that held Star Magic, which proved to be his true might. You see, he had wind powers because he was also the host to a half-elf – the unborn child of Licht and Tetia. However, it’s worth noting that the Spade Kingdom royal family are known for their unique abilities; his mother possessed Moon Magic, while his father was graced with Sun Magic. Their son, in turn, inherited Star Magic, another rare power. This newfound ability significantly altered the course of the battle, as Yuno dominated his adversary using both his powers.
In the Spade Kingdom Arc, it was incredibly gratifying to see Yuno triumphing so effortlessly against Zenon, given his past actions. As their battle unfolded, Zenon poured all of his soul into Beelzebub, one of the three lords of the underworld. The fight also offers glimpses into Zenon’s character history. By the end, with defeat staring him in the face, he ponders what sets him and Yuno apart.
In contrast, through all the events unfolding, Yuno remains steadfast on his path and true to the vow he gave Asta. “Black Clover” is distinguished by its elaborate art style and stunning paneling, which amplifies the intensity of the fight. If the story were to be animated, these details and the emotional resonance would undoubtedly distinguish it from other fights in the series.
