According to two sources, as detailed in an oral history article from The Hollywood Reporter about the show, Woody Harrelson was a potential choice for playing the character of Rick Hatchett.
According to the article, Harrelson attempted to discuss his salary with David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery. However, negotiations were unsuccessful. Despite this, he initially agreed to the project but eventually withdrew due to scheduling conflicts.
Now, Harrelson himself has explained his reasons for not being able to take on the role previously, stating that it was merely because of other obligations he had at the time.
According to a statement he made to The Daily Beast, Harrelson had been eagerly looking forward to working on “White Lotus.” However, due to a change in the show’s production schedule that clashed with his previously arranged family holiday, he found himself in a very difficult position and was ultimately compelled to make a tough decision.

Rick Hatchett is of course being played by Walton Goggins in the ongoing season of The White Lotus.
