On Instagram, musician Eric Lewis (also known as ELEW), who has been nominated for a Grammy, shared an image of a Marvel-themed invitation sent out for Downey’s 60th birthday party. The invite, styled like classic Marvel Comics covers, showcases an illustration of Downey in character as Doom, sporting a curly hairstyle. Interestingly, X, Nexus Point News noted that Downey himself was spotted recently flaunting this appearance, posting a side-by-side comparison. The other images of Doom on the invitation appear more true to comic book style, but the main image also seems to don an Iron Man mask variation.

However, it’s crucial to avoid jumping to conclusions too soon. The hairstyle seen on Downey in real life might not necessarily be how Doom will appear on set. In film production, hairstyling plays a significant role and can undergo changes. Moreover, Marvel is known for its high level of secrecy, which implies that the true appearance of Doom in “Doomsday” may not be unveiled until the studio decides it’s ready to showcase it. This might not happen until they release footage from the movie.
Marvel occasionally bends creative rules, but they strive to stay true to the original stories by making characters look like their comic book counterparts when feasible (as shown with Sentry’s complete costume in Thunderbolts). The upcoming appearance of Doom in the MCU is highly anticipated. Given the lukewarm reception of previous live-action portrayals, the Russo Brothers are expected to go all out to make their version resonate with viewers. Costume design plays a significant role in comic book adaptations, and getting Doom’s appearance right will be crucial. As long as he exudes an intimidating presence on-screen, whatever changes the Russos make should work effectively.
