Finally, the latest Nintendo Switch 2 Direct broadcast has unveiled a multitude of games set for the upcoming Nintendo console. Already, there’s much to look forward to with titles such as “Mario Kart World”, “Kirby Air Riders”, “Donkey Kong Bananza”, and the new multiplayer game from FromSoftware, called “The Duskbloods”.
In spite of an overflowing calendar with numerous titles bound for the Nintendo Switch 2, certain missing games have left some gaming enthusiasts somewhat disheartened. Here’s what we eagerly anticipate seeing on the Nintendo Switch 2 as quickly as it can be released.
A New Animal Crossing Game
Without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most significant letdowns during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct was the absence of a new Animal Crossing game. Countless comfortable gamers have eagerly anticipated a fresh installment in the series ever since the launch of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It’s been five long years since that game hit the shelves, and many enthusiasts had high hopes for a reveal of the next title in the Animal Crossing series, thinking it was an inevitable part of the anticipated Switch 2 unveiling.
So far, it seems like we won’t get a new Animal Crossing game for the Nintendo Switch 2 at its launch date. But remember, June 5th is still quite some time off, and there’s a good chance more games will be announced before the console actually hits the market. However, whispers suggest that we might not see the new Animal Crossing title until 2026, which means we might have to wait a bit longer for its reveal on the Nintendo Switch 2.
New 3D Mario
Alongside the release of the new Animal Crossing game, many players may have been disappointed not to find a new 3D Mario game announced for the Nintendo Switch 2. Given that Super Mario Odyssey was released shortly after the original Nintendo Switch console, and Mario is essentially Nintendo’s iconic character, it seemed likely that a new 3D Mario title would be unveiled during the presentation of upcoming flagship games for the Nintendo Switch 2. However, this was not the case.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been eagerly waiting for the release of the latest Nintendo console, but it seems like a new 3D Mario game might not be part of the launch lineup. Previous leaks hinted at this, and now, it appears they might have been on point. A Nintendo console without a solid 3D Mario game just doesn’t feel right to me, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for some fresh updates about what’s next in the world of Mario and his pals.
The Next Super Smash Bros.
There’s a lot of chatter regarding the upcoming Super Smash Bros. game, leading fans to believe that a sneak peek might be unveiled during the Switch 2 Direct presentation. Regrettably, this cherished Nintendo series is not yet among the games confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. Given that it’s been seven years since Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was released, it seems we’re approaching the time for a new installment in the franchise.
As a die-hard Super Smash Bros. fan, it’s not all gloom and doom! Whispers abound that a new installment might be on the horizon as early as 2026. While Nintendo may be keeping tight-lipped about their upcoming releases, focusing more on titles coming out around June 5th when the Nintendo Switch 2 hits the shelves, fans like me are eagerly waiting for an official confirmation before fully committing to the new console.
Pokemon Black & White Remakes
Is it really a wishlist for a Nintendo console’s game lineup if we neglect to include the rumored remakes of Pokemon Black & White? For years, fans have yearned and wished for a genuine comeback to Unova with complete remakes for this generation. If Pokemon follows its traditional pattern with main series games, Unova should be next in line for remakes. However, so far, there’s been no confirmation or hint about it. Given that next year marks Pokemon’s 30th anniversary, many fans anticipate the moment is approaching, with Unova remakes potentially debuting alongside Generation 10 of Pokemon.
As a die-hard Pokemon fan, I was thrilled to catch a glimpse of Pokemon Legends: Z-A during the recent Nintendo Direct. Not only that, but they also confirmed some GameCube-era Pokemon games are heading to Nintendo Switch Online. However, there’s still no word on remakes for Black & White. Fingers crossed, these remakes will eventually grace the screen of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, and Pokemon will unveil more details about the games soon.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remakes
In the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, there was a lot of positive news for fans of The Legend of Zelda series. The new game Hyrule Warriors was announced, and it was confirmed that The Wind Waker would be added to the GameCube classics library. However, many fans have been eagerly waiting for Nintendo to remake one of their most cherished games, Ocarina of Time. Although gamers can revisit this game through the N64 library on the Nintendo Switch online, there’s a growing sentiment that it’s high time for this classic game to receive a remake.
For years, there have been whispers about potential remakes of an exceptionally well-regarded game in The Legend of Zelda series. Most recently, a Newegg post hinted at a “Legend of Zelda remaster.” With all the buzz surrounding a possible revisit to Ocarina of Time for the Switch 2, many enthusiasts eagerly anticipate its realization as a remake. Regrettably, no such announcement was made during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, so we continue our wait.
Nintendogs Remake
Enthusiasts of dogs and gamers from a certain demographic have long been requesting a modernized version of Nintendo’s Nintendogs games, which were popular on the Nintendo DS. These requests are so frequent that they often surface during any news related to Nintendo. The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 seems like the perfect opportunity for Nintendo to revamp the virtual pet genre and make it suitable for 2025.
As of now, there’s not even a hint or rumor about a new Nintendogs game for Nintendo Switch 2.
New Entry in the Star Fox Series
The most recent installment in the Star Fox series, “Star Fox Zero,” didn’t initially appear on the Nintendo Switch when it launched in 2016; instead, it was released for the Wii U. To date, fans have been waiting for a new addition to this cherished yet somewhat less mainstream Nintendo franchise on the platform, as there are no native Star Fox games available on the Switch. However, a collaboration between Star Fox and Ubisoft’s “Starlink” did materialize on the Nintendo Switch.
Due to the absence of a Star Fox game on the Nintendo Switch, fans have been eagerly anticipating news about a new installment for the Switch 2, or perhaps a revamped version or re-release of the current games. As of now, there’s no information available regarding Star Fox appearing on a contemporary Nintendo system again.
