On April 12th at 10 AM Pacific Time, Bungie will unveil gameplay for the long-awaited Marathon on Twitch. This confirmation comes after Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb hinted at it back in February and recent whispers from figures like Geoff Keighley about testing the game.
In 2023, the competitive player-versus-player extraction shooter titled Marathon is expected to release on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Although it’s not a direct continuation of the original trilogy, Bungie aims to preserve the established “mythology, narrative, and themes.” There have been whispers about development challenges causing delays within the project, with the overall atmosphere surrounding it said to be less than ideal.
Under Joe Ziegler’s leadership, Marathon is set to broaden its playtesting sessions this year, possibly including a closed beta phase. It’s speculated that an announcement about this could happen during the upcoming reveal, but it’s yet to be confirmed.
Nevertheless, indications from Steam’s back-end suggest that pre-orders could be available soon, implying an earlier release than anticipated. Keep an eye out for further developments in the interim.
