The White Lotus Season 3 Finale Shocker: Rick’s Father Revealed in Heartbreaking Twist!

*Warning: This article contains full spoilers for The White Lotus season 3 finale, Amor Fati.*

In the final episode of Season 3, The White Lotus unveiled numerous developments involving all characters. However, it appeared that the tension escalated even further in Rick’s (Walton Goggins) storyline.

In the second-to-last episode of the season, Rick found the insight he appeared to be seeking from Jim Hollinger (Scott Glenn). This came after a global quest during which Rick suspected that Jim was responsible for his father’s death.

In the end, Rick found himself unable to fire the gun pointed at Jim, yet he managed to push Jim out of his seat instead.

It appeared as if Rick hadn’t given due consideration, as he seemed unaware that the hotel resort was owned by Jim and his spouse Lek Patravadi.

The following morning, a surprising arrival occurs from Bangkok, and it is then that Jim confronts Rick regarding his actions from the previous night.

He instructs Rick to depart from his hotel, gesturing towards the gun hidden beneath his jacket in its holster, while simultaneously delivering a sharp rebuke concerning Rick’s parents, making for a rather pointed confrontation.

Jim tells Rick that he remembers Rick’s mother, that she was a “drunk”, a “liar” and a “slut”.

Jim also tells Rick that his father “was no saint”, adding that Rick “didn’t miss out on much”.

The heated argument appears to undo the serenity Rick has achieved since Bangkok, alongside Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood). Despite her attempts to soothe him, Rick finds himself frustrated due to an unavoidable lack of an emergency meeting with Amrita (Shalini Peiris) and Jim’s nonchalant behavior. As a result, Rick decides to address the situation independently.

Moving towards Jim, he draws his firearm, addresses him harshly, fires twice into Jim’s chest, causing a chaotic reaction as Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan), Kate Bohr (Leslie Bibb) and Laurie Duffy (Carrie Coon) all flee in terror. With her husband now deceased, Sritala is left to mourn over his lifeless body.

She’s puzzled about why Rick fired at him and inquires about it, to which Rick explains casually that Jim had murdered his dad. However, she corrects him, saying, “That’s your father,” implying that Rick has been misinformed, as Jim admitted the truth about his actions last night.

The final scene is heavily reminiscent of a Shakespearean tragedy, as Rick ultimately takes his father’s life and breathes his last breath with Chelsea, the love of his life, by his side.

Unforeseen twists unfolded before the series finale, leaving numerous viewers puzzled and anticipating the real character of Jim. Many spectators surmised that the mysterious tycoon might turn out to be Rick’s father.

Weeks ahead, astute White Lotus viewers began picking up on a plotline, speculating that Jim might be revealed as Rick’s father. Some online fans had already been discussing this parental connection weeks before the first meeting between Jim and Rick.

Rick’s drive stemmed from his mother’s last words, implying that Jim was the man who took his father’s life. There seems to be a dual meaning in her farewell statement: either she was correct about Jim being a murderer or she wished for Rick to someday encounter his biological father.

Regarding the unanswered open-ended questions, they’ll remain a mystery since Rick ended Jim’s life before we had a chance to find out more.
