LEGO River Steamboat Set Just Dropped! You Won’t Believe What’s Inside!

For LEGO enthusiasts, April 2025 hasn’t been too busy with new releases, but there are three must-haves you should keep an eye on – The Disney Beauty and the Beast Castle, The Lord of the Rings Shire set from LEGO Icons, and the LEGO Ideas River Steamboat Set. The latter, which was released this morning, is now available for LEGO Insiders. If you’re the type who was quick to grab The Endurance set during the holidays, then the launch of the LEGO Ideas River Steamboat Set (affectionately known as “Project Toot”) should be right up your alley.

LEGO has unveiled their initial steamboat set at New York Toy Fair, which was designed by fans through the LEGO Ideas platform. This 4,090-piece set is expected to provide a complex building experience that results in an accurate representation of a classic river boat. However, this boat comes with some unexpected elements; it’s been updated for entertainment tours, featuring a steam engine museum. The details include a well-equipped pilothouse, crew quarters, bathroom on the Texas deck, a music stage and restaurant on the main deck, and a kitchen on the boiler deck.

As a devoted cinephile, I find myself captivated by the intricate details of the latest Endurance replica, which graces my collection. In a similar vein, the upcoming steamboat model promises to be just as engaging, complete with operational aspects such as a steam-powered paddle and a rudder controlled via the ship’s wheel. To add to the excitement, removable decks will grant access to the interior compartments, offering an even closer look at this magnificent creation. For those eager to explore further, a gallery below offers a sneak peek. Curiosity piqued? Stay tuned for answers on crucial details such as when it will be available, where it can be purchased, its cost, and any enticing freebies that might accompany the purchase!

Beginning on April 6th or 7th at 9pm PT / 12am ET, the LEGO Ideas River Steamboat set will be accessible first to LEGO Insiders through early access. On April 10th, it will be available to all customers. You can find this exclusive set at our very own LEGO shop, priced at $329.99. As an added bonus, from April 7th to April 13th (while supplies last), LEGO Insiders will receive a complimentary gift with their purchase: The LEGO Amelia Ticket Booth. Here’s the official description for this freebie:

The intricate LEGO Amelia Ticket Booth (5009157) construction kit comes equipped with a ticket window, tower, dock, and flag. It boasts decorative elements such as ‘TICKET’ and ‘AMELIA’ signs adorned with schedule details. Inside the structure lies a mini riverboat museum complete with a tiny model of a riverboat and a microfigure. A delight to construct and play, this 152-piece LEGO Ticket Booth building set makes for an imaginative present for children aged ten and above.

The LEGO set you see is a creation by Aaron Hall, an enthusiast from Illinois, USA, who designed it through the LEGO Ideas program. He shared his thoughts on the project: “My love for LEGO boats started with the Black Seas Barracuda (#6285), which I was captivated by due to its complex rigging of masts and sails. Having grown up near the Mississippi River, my fascination with paddleboats deepened, leading me to develop this steamboat model. To accurately represent steamboats, I researched numerous images for inspiration and carefully chose LEGO elements that would bring my idea to life. I aimed to make it suitable for minifigures and include modular boat hull bases as a tribute to classic LEGO pirate ships.

As a fan, I’d highly recommend signing up for a free LEGO Insiders account right here to access exclusive deals. If you’re keen to explore upcoming releases, you can find them all listed in the “Coming Soon” section. After they hit the market, you’ll find them shifted over to the “Available Now” section. Some of these new releases might also be available on Amazon, but for the best offers, it’s often wise to stick with shopping directly from LEGO.
