2025 has been an incredible year for gaming, with some fantastic titles hitting the shelves. However, none have managed to outshine the masterpiece that is Blue Prince. This game has catapulted itself to the top as the highest-rated game of the year thus far, leaving me utterly captivated and in awe of its brilliance.

Despite heavyweight titles like Split Fiction, Monster Hunter Wilds, Xenoblade Chronicles X, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 leading the pack this year, I’m amazed that a game I hadn’t previously known about has taken the number one spot. It currently holds the highest rating on Metacritic for this year, and it’s clear to see why.

The Blue Prince is an intriguing game that combines puzzle-solving and exploration, set within a house whose rooms continuously change. Essentially, it’s similar to the Clockwork Mansion level from Dishonored 2, only expanded into a complete game. It draws significant inspiration from the board game Betrayal at House on the Hill, as you add new rooms dynamically during gameplay. To top it off, the visuals are stunning with a cel-shaded aesthetic.

In our Blue Prince critique, Oscar Taylor-Kent expresses that this game is unlike anything he’s ever played and turned into an addictive puzzle challenge he found hard to forget. As you traverse the house whose design shifts daily in-game, each time you grasp a doorknob, you are presented with a choice of three potential rooms to mark on your blueprint. It’s easy to see why this unique mechanic has left numerous reviewers thrilled about it.

In the review by TheGamer, it’s mentioned that the aim of the game is to discover the 46th enigmatic room within the estate, however, finding this may prove more challenging than expected. It seems that Blue Prince might be a game that benefits from entering without prior knowledge, as suggested by both TheGamer and PC Gamer’s reviewers who prefer not to reveal any spoilers.
